Was drafting Carmelo a mistake?

Melo was the right choice for the Nuggets. And the truth is, Melo would have been better under Riley then he is under Karl.

And remember, if Wade wouldn't have had Shaq he wouldn't be **** either.

I think of the three All-Stars taken in the draft besides LeBron, the best pick for you guys would have been Bosh. If you still made the trade for AI, that would be a deadlier combo then Melo and AI due to the inside outside game. At the time though, it obviously wasn't a mistake and going back in tiem it would have been done 9/10 times probably.

I think it was a good choice. People might disagree but i think that it brought alot of people to like Denver as a team. Melo was a favourite for some fans. I think if we got Wade we would see a whole different Denver team.

Melo has brought alot to Denver and whether it was a bad choice or not i think it was either Melo, Wade or Bosh.

I don't remember the exact dates, but I believe Camby and Nene were on the roster before Melo was drafted.. Kmart, signed at some point that off-season, correct? So Bosh really wasn't the best pick. Denver had holes at SF and SG that needed to be filled.

Actually, K-Mart got signed a year after Melo got drafted during the summer of '04.

It's an absurd notion that the Nuggets made a mistake by drafting Carmelo. You gotta believe if Melo played with Shaq, people would have a completely different image of him. Bottom line, he's a top 5 scorer in the league, he's durable, and he's helped a bottom rung team because a perennial playoff team (sure, they haven't won a series). Perhaps more of it is the failure of the front office to successfully build a team around Melo that would work.

Got me inspired to actually check too, year before Melo was drafted, Nene played in 80 (omg?!?!?) games. Although Camby in only 29. But the team basically had nothing at SF, so Melo was certainly a high team need. Bosh not as much.

You can say that drafting Melo was a mistake if your statement is to win champ and you already knew Wade won a champ.

But there are too many things to consider. Heats got Wade and they had different materials to win the champ back.
All teams will ask why they didn't draft who who who. But I think this is stupid to think about. What if you drafted Michael Jordan, what if he didn't retire?

Not a mistake. Wade is not clearly a better player now, is injury prone, and could not have been predicted to be nearly as good as he is.

The real mistake was failing to win the draft lottery so we could pick James. The Nuggets seem to make that mistake every chance they get.

I think the choice was good at the time. Melo was the consensus #3 (should've been the consensus #2 pick). People didn't know how good Wade would be. In hindsight Wade could've been a better pick for my Raptors but we're happy with Bosh and you shouldn't be unhappy with Melo either.

And from here... things can always change. Wade could get injured and maybe Darko will break out and get MVP (I'm kidding).

Lebron, Darko, and Carmelo were considered the big three at that time, and from the 4th and so on, it was downhill from there, lottery teams were hoping to get one of those three picks so they could get one of those three players and basically carmelo was the consensus third best prospect and it woulda been a shocker if you guys picked someone else......I remember Jeff Bzdelik praising Bosh and Imma assume Bosh was higher on denver's draft board than Wade, just based on the fact that Bosh had immense potential and was being compared to KG and TD while Wade was an undersized two guard who couldn't shoot, also I'm pretty sure Miami woulda pick Bosh over Wade had he still been on the board
