wouldn't he be a better option for the 15th guy then Reiner or Antwayne? Especially considering he will get the minimum and we invested a lot of time in him already..
Trail Blazers forward Shavlik Randolph made all nine of his field goals on Friday, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds, one steal and three blocks in 20 minutes off the bench.
As if the Blazers needed more young talent. If nothing else, this impressive showing could earn Randolph a spot on the regular season roster.

Re: Shav
Shav looked decent as opposed to Webber years ago but really isnt anything special. He had 3 seasons here, time to bring in someone else, they knew what they had and didnt have w shav. Ill trust Cheeks and Stefanskis observations that it was time to move on, esp. considering he would at most be our 15th man.

Re: Shav
There is no guarantee that we will even keep a 15th guy, or that he is a guy on the team now if we do keep one. Nice game for Shav and good luck to him, but it's preseason and the guys like him trying to make a roster are playing the hardest and getting opportunities they never would in the regular season. Lots of pre-season all stars never see the light of day again, but again I only wish Shav the best, I just don't think we missed anything special.

Re: Shav
I was annoyed when he came back last year & Mo wouldn't put him in the game. I like a lot of other posters on these boards just assumed that he was finished & that he couldn't come back from the injury that he had. Looks like we may have all be wrong. If he's regained his athleticism, he's a perfect fit on a running team.

Re: Shav
Because everyone generally agreed that last season the four was not a position of strength (emphasized by the gyrations to get Brand), it is difficult for me to believe that Mo did not play Shav for frivolous or stupid reasons. I personally did not believe Randolph was "right" the few times I watched him. I attributed that to the rehabilitation necessary after major surgery and the fact that there are usually performance problems after any long layoff. I would also not rule out medical counsel and simple caution.
I did not, nor do I believe did Cheeks, necessarily assume Shav was "finished".
On some boards there seems to be indignation that Randolph was cut before he had a chance to totally rehabilitate. I do not understand this. Clearly everyone possible was sacrificed to secure Brand. Shav did a nice job for us and, I think, would be a nice insurance policy. I, personally, am more troubled by the losses of Korver and Carney than those of Randolph, Amundson, or Hill. In spite of this, however, I still concur with Ed's decisions, and was pleased with what he was able to accomplish. I do not believe that they speak to the worth or potential of those cut, except in comparison to the value of Elton Brand.

Absolutely not. Reiner won't be on the team. He's a training camp body. Shav went to a team where he has a shot to make the regular season roster. It wasn't going to happen here.
So the kid had one nice game in the pre-season. He has several years at Duke and 3 years in Philly and he showed that at best, he's nothing more than a 12th man. We have Dalembert, Ratliff, Speights, Brand and Evans here and we had Jason Smith and added Donyell Marshall. What role would Shav, a guy whose main ability it hustle, put backs, and energy rebounding have on the Sixers, with an all-star power forward, a hustle player in Evans who does what Shav does but does it better, a stud first round pick, a legitimate center, a true shot blocking back up center, and a situational shooting big man already here?
You can't keep every deep reserve around whether he adds anything or not. I like Shav. I hope he gets a guranteed contract somewhere. But there was no room for him here and even if he makes the Blazzers, how many of those 20 point 9 rebound games do you expect to see in the regular season? I'll bet on none.
