Preseason Trend or Mirage?

Post#1 » by writersblock » Mon Oct 13, 2008 2:25 pm

The Hawks have been playing different lineups during the preseason, and there seems to be a lot of potential in guys like Acie Law, Mo Evans, and Flip Murray. Frankly, Flip is probably the better of the 3 guys, but what do you think about the rotations. Law is a strict PG but has disappointed. Mo is fairly limited and can't do anything that Childress can. Flip can play both guard positions and has been solid even in limited minutes. Any ideas about minutes, rotations, potential numbers?

How about the frontline changes we are going to see more often with Marvin's suspension along with him getting hurt?

AL/Zaza/Smoove - def a better rebounding team, but probably not effective against the West teams known for their quick play.

I do think Flip and Mo are excellent additions especially if we get hit by an injury or 2. And Bibby really hasn't been part of the team long enough yet, so it does look like the bench is deeper and could help us in those back-2-backs.

I wish we'd bring in Fazekas. He's big and can shoot. I can't believe we wouldn't have a spot for him.

It looks like zaza is getting a lot of production out of his minutes. Does he look like he's improved form last year, or just having a good streak?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

this is why i said weeks ago when Flip was signed that i think he will probably take Bibby's minutes or even starting spot, because he can do everything that Bibby can do and play decent defence.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Sorry for the late response, most Hawks fans aren't on RealGM, they usually are at hawksquawk.

But, we haven't been able to see any of our games on TV, so only those who have gone to the games at Philips have seen the team play. I am personally not getting excited over Zaza's good preaseason play, since I've seen him play terrible defense for 3 years now. But, he definitely regressed last season and played a lot worse than usual, so I'm hoping he can be a solid backup for us this year. We definitely need it.

^^^ I hate Hawksquawk, that place is out of control. If we had this discussion over there it would probably morph into some absurd argument about how we have to trade Josh Smith to put a real center like Dwight Howard next to Al. But you are right that is where most people are.

Zaza's preseason play is a good sign. He's nothing special, but if he can play like he did two years ago then he will be a nice backup center. I know it is just preseason, but it is good to see all these guys coming off of the bench and doing a nice job. If we can establish some depth then this can might be a pretty good team.

LOL, it's not that bad. Most are very knowledgeable guys, but with higher traffic you are always going to have a few more trolls that don't know what they're talking about.

Yeah, the thing is, Zaza at times plays good defense. Other times he looks lost and out of position. I wish he could be more consistent. But, my biggest problem with him is when he goes into Kobe-mode and tries to score every time he touches the ball. That just irritates the hell out of me, and he ends up turning it over more than anything. If he does get the shot off, it usually doesn't go in. He just needs to focus on rebounding and D.

OMG

I am not a Bibby fan but get real. Murray is a career 28% shooter from 3 and has a well deserved reputation as a chucker who isn't looking to pass. He can play D better than Bibby but he should be the 3rd string pg not the starter.

I went to the Orlando game and Zaza is still thinking he's 20 times better than he actually is.
