Pacman suspended / Cowboys get the other Roy Williams.

Romo is out a month, now Pacman and they weren't even looking that good before all this. Poor Cowboys. I feel bad for 'em.

Along the same lines....

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3643295

The Dallas Cowboys are discussing with the Detroit Lions a trade for wide receiver Roy Williams, a team source told ESPN.com Tuesday.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes Williams is a game-breaker who provides an immediate boost to a faltering offense without quarterback Tony Romo and views him as a potential long-term solution as the eventual replacement for aging Terrell Owens, according to another high-ranking Cowboys source.

The source said the Cowboys are willing to make the deal, but the Lions seem hesitant because they are operating without a general manager. Former GM Matt Millen had discussed the possibility of trading Williams with the Cowboys frequently before he was fired.

The Lions have been demanding a first-round draft choice just to consider a deal, and it is not known if Jones is willing to make the trade at that compensation level. The Cowboys could offer a second- and third-round pick, since they have multiple choices in the third round.

Williams has expressed unhappiness playing for the winless Lions and can become a free agent after the season unless the team places the franchise tag on him.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen, attending the meeting of league owners, reported that the Cowboys' NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles have also made inquiries about Williams' availability. While one GM said there was a strong possibility the Lions would trade Williams to the Cowboys or Eagles on Tuesday, Philadelphia is believed to be more interested in Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez. The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers are also pursuing a deal with the Chiefs.

However, sources told ESPN's Michael Smith on Tuesday that it appeared very unlikely Gonzalez would be traded.

In Dallas, Jones is known for a failed deal in which he traded two No. 1 draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks for wide receiver Joey Galloway in an attempt to provide Troy Aikman one more chance at the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys would like to find a way to avoid the two- to three-season span it seems to take to develop a young receiver for that role. But the Cowboys are concerned about how Owens would react to the addition of another prominent receiver and the possibility it would diminish his role rather than provide him occasional single coverage. The potential negative effect on the overall offensive chemistry is also a concern and some in the organization prefer to wait until the offseason to make such a move.

Either way, Jones definitely wants him and there have been very few times in his two decades of ownership that the Cowboys have failed to acquire a player Jones covets like he does Williams.

Williams was dealt to the Cowboys today for a 1st, 3rd and a 7th. I'm stunned the Lions got that much for him. He's a good player, but I don't put him in the class of elite WRs.

Wow Dallas gave up way to much not to mentioned T.O. is going to be pissed now that Roy is on board taking away some of his catches.

So yea,as a Packer fan I love the trade for Dallas.

ESPN reports it's a 1st, 3rd, and 6th in exchange for Williams and a 7th. All picks in 2009.

The more I look at the deal the more I can't believe Jones and Dallas did it. They have line and defensive back issues. Giving up major assets for another WR is silly. Not to mention he's going to be a FA after this season.

A better move would have been to send KC two 3rds ('09 and '10) and play both Witten and Gonzo. They spead JW out wide enough as it is. That combination would have been a lot better and a lot cheaper.

It didn't take me too long of a look to form my opinion. I think Detroit made a great trade and Dallas made a very questionable one. They gave up a lot for Roy, who's good enough to take some catches, focus, and attention away from TO (and that is meant in a negative way). Given that this is an issue that has already been risen this season, is that the direction they wanted to go? At least, as said, at that price? Given that the offense already has TO and Witten, doesn't Roy Williams in addition to Patrick Crayton seem a little redundant?

Detroit, on the other hand, gets rid of a guy that was giving them marginal productivity in a year where they are absolutely awful, who wouldn't have signed with them willingly anyways, and brings back two great picks and three overall.

Yea, the Lions made an incredible deal. Even if he was coming off his '06 season this would be a nice haul.

Maybe if he was the last piece of the puzzle, but Williams is just the latest greedy move by a Cowboys offense that already wasn't getting stopped. They should have invested in their secondary.

Terrible move by the Cowboys.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha the Cowgirls are going to finish 4th in their division this season and they're giving up half a Ricky Williams' ransom for... Roy Williams? He's had more than 63 receptions ONCE and has never topped 8 touchdowns.

I've seen a couple Cowboys fans, at a couple of different message boards, say that something had to be done given that Felix Jones was out now. I find this funny for a couple reasons:

1) Then lets make up for the loss of a dynamic, break-away running game by trading for yet another, possibly redundant, option in the passing game?

2) Pacman Jones is suspended indefinitely. Don't you think you'd want to be addressing that if possible? Seems a little more pressing than Felix Jones being out, to me.

They have one of the best RBs in the league, and they are that worried about losing Felix Jones? Terrible.

If anything, Cowboys fans should be worried that Owens maybe has lost a step and that is the reason he's not putting up the catches and numbers he's accustomed to (not just Romo not looking his way enough).

I'm wondering if Owens is going to turn into the baby that everyone was accustomed to. I think that the collection of talent with no leadership is going to be the downfall of the Cowboys.

As much as I love to hate Jerry Jones, he passion is undeniable. The guy is a winner. That Roy Williams trade was Al Davis-esque though. The last thing that team needed was another diva receiver. Jones said he wants Williams to be TO's eventual replacement, but I'm pretty sure Roy was gonna be a free agent next year. You just can't give a first and a third up for a want and not a need.

The Packers have won a SB more recently than the Cowboys have. Jones "leadership" style hasn't worked in over a decade.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think part of the willingness in giving up so much for Williams is that the Cowboys received two draft picks back as part of the pacman Jones trade. By being suspeded, the Cowboys got their picks back they gave up to acquire him. So like any rich kid who was just given a tax refund, jerry jones spent those picks as soon as he got them.
