Picks you Like (TOP 3)

Post#1 » by deep throat » Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:06 pm

Not the best three, but at the point inthe draft they were picked the best "value" or BPA.

David Clowney- We needed a WR with speed (anything below 4.5). I realize he has flaws-mostly thin frame, but performed very well with a bad QB against high level competition. I thought he is a better prospect then Jones.

Allen Barbre-As athletic a OT you will find and a prefect fit for this scheme. If he can learn technique and gain strength he should be a good one. Has the mean streak you like in a OT as well.

Brandon Jackson- Wasn't best player available, but was best player available at RB for the Packers and they had to address it with this pick. What he lacks Morency gives you. He will be the guy I will watch the closest in preseason.

Here are my winners (gave my losers in the other thread)...again, not necessarily players:

1) The clear winner....Green Bay Packers Day 2 selections. I loved them all, and considering our picks and needs, I don't think you'll find a team who had a better second day. We acquired at least 4 players who should have been drafted earlier than they wre selected (Harris, Wynn, Crosby and Clowney), with some of those guys arguably first day selections. Crosby, the #1 kicker in the draft is a clear upgrade over Rayner, Clowney, IMO, has the potential to be better than Jones (our #3) and looks like a poor man's version of Torry Holt. Barbre was a solid pick in the fourth, and the two LB's will be very good special teamers (more on this later). I also think Harris has the chance to develop into a solid TE down the road. Wynn is a good #3, at minimum, so long as he's motivated by his draft free fall.

2) Defense and Special Teams: Teddy has really infused both of these critical areas with TOUGHNESS. our dline has a chance to be dominant against the run, and our special teams should have some standout players in Jones, the two new LB's and Rouse. I like the Harrell selection, but it is a very risky pick. While I would have preferred to see TT trade up for AD (who will be a star for Minny against us for years to come) or to trade down into the mid-low 20's and draft Meachem if he wasn't going to trade for Moss (or get Rice/Jarrett in second), I do think improving the dline is VITAL to this team's success. all in all, our team should display some real toughness in the coming years. Unfortuantely, I'm not srue that we're going to be able to score enough points to win games.

4) Favorite picks in order based on their value at their selection:

Clowney, Harrell, Crosby, Wynn, Jackson, Barbre, Harris, Hall, Rouse, Bishop, Jones.

One more thing to add. When David Clowney ran his 40 at the combine he had a strained quad. He feels he can run sub 4.3 on grass. Wouldnt he be the fastest player in the NFL then?

No Yamon Figurs from KState ran a sup 4.3 at the combine I believe. And Randy Moss just ran a 4.29 last week in his conditioning drills

I could have swore I read in the Journal Sentinel on Sunday that Randy ran a 4.29 but Figurs and David would be a helluva race

Randy ran a 4.38 and that would be quite a race and would pay admission for that one :D

I like DeShawn Wynn. I think they got some good value at that pick.

Otherwise, I think they went out and addressed some needs with some depth.

I don't know that any of the players they took will start right away this year...Maybe Brandon Jackson.

Randy did run a 4.29. It was mentioned in both the journal and on ESPN on Sunday by the Draft Crew. The times were confimed by both PAcker and PAtriot officials, according to ESPN.

That being said, Clowney IS one helluva speedster. I think he might be the steal of the second round.
