Houston Rockets Career Leaders

Post#1 » by dream34 » Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:30 am

I just stumpled upon this.. http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... areer.html

Some very interesting Rockets career leader stats:

Unsurprisingly, Hakeem's name dominates this list.. but surprisingly..

Not known for his great shooting, Rafer Alston is ranked 6th all time in 3 pointers made. He is joined by 3 other current rockets: Steve Francis (5), Tracy McGrady (7), and Luther Head (8).

Not known for his offense, Dikembe Mutombo is #1 all time in Offensive Rating! 4th all time True Shooting Percentage. Joining Dikembe on the all time offensive rating list, the 7th place belongs to offensive machine Chuck Hayes, and at 4 Shane Battier.

Scott Padgett is #9 in defensive rating!

Cuttino Mobley cracked the Top 10 in field goals made.

Kelvin Cato is #2 overall in Field Goal Percentage. Maybe that explains the contact extension?

Jon Barry was the most accurate 3 point shooter in Rockets history - Shane Battier is the 7th, and Luther Head the 8th.

Steve Francis is 10th all time in both offensive and defensive rebounding.

Jim Jackson averaged the most minutes per game - 39.1.

T-Mac is barely edging out Moses Malone for the highest points average with 24.1.

What other interesting Rockets stats can you find?

I'm curious to see turnovers per minute :) (and a few other time-based stats)

Turnover Pct
1. Ryan Bowen 7.4
2. Eddie Griffin 8.0
3. Matt Bullard 9.3
4. Rudy Tomjanovich 9.3
5. Sam Mack 9.7
6. Kennard Winchester 9.8
7. Eddie Johnson 9.8
8. Shane Battier 9.9
9. Calvin Murphy* 9.9
10. Tracy McGrady 10.0

You of course have to look at this with usage rate. Ryan Bowen never turned the ball over because he passed it as soon as he got it. Interesting is of course Tracy McGrady. He had the highest usage rate by far by any Rocket ever yet never turned the ball over. That's why he's still valuable even though he shoots like Ryan Bowen these days.

I'm rather shocked that Battier is on a turnover list when he averages .98to / 36min.

What exactly is this turnover percentage using for calculations? TO / UsageRate? That seems like it might have taken some time to calculate...

It's good that he's on the list? It's lower the better. The formula is:

100 * TOV / (FGA + 0.44 * FTA + TOV)

It basically is the number of turnovers per 100 possessions.
