This is strange.

A little early in the season to panic. I guess everyone's guess on the first coach to get fired is wrong.

I know what you're thinking. We're in the middle of a city, what's a hawk doing there?

I don't think this has anything to do with the poor start. I think some people with the Blackhawks have different philosophies on the teams overall direction. Me thinks Scotty Bowman had something to do with this.

They should just make Scotty head coach.

He said he would never coach again the guy is 75 I think. He has nothing more to prove. He has 10 cups as coach and player so why would he want to take over a rebuilding team? Also doesn't he still have ties to the Wings?

He's with the Blackhawks as the Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations.

And the Blackhawks aren't much of a rebuilding project anymore. Not in the sense that the Kings are.

They have made a rather large upgrade in the coaching department. Joel Quenneville won the cup as an assistant in Colorado in '96, and he will get the most out of these young stars. The NHL is so tight this season, a bad start means no chance at the playoffs, Chicago made the right move by acting early, why throw away a season.

Good move by Chicago.

P.S. Expect Calgary to follow suit very shortly, Keenan's troops look lost out there.
Go Raps!!

I have a feeling the Blackhawks wanted to fire Savard all along, but they needed an opportunity to do it. His coaching wasn't the greatest for this team, and the Blackhawks were not willing to fire him during the offseason full of positive free agent signings, press conferences, and fluff stories. The poor start was a perfect opportunity.
