i doubt that we´ll bench bell but it would be a nice idea. i also don´t see a problem. can´t have enough good players on this team.

Bell deserves the start based on his defense and ability to spread the floor with his three point range. His stats went downhill a little last season but keep in mind that he was constantly plagues with back and ankle issues. Plus having Barns or Hill come off the bench gives us such depth.

NO FRICKING WAY. So then off the bench, we'll play Bell at the 3, when we really don't NEED to? I think not. This is the way I see things working out.

Nash will get better defensively because he will have help from either side, and on the interior because of improved defense, and will no longer need Bell to guard his man. Bell will stick to guarding his own man, the shooting guard, on almost all teams, and not have to bang with bigger guy's like the Melo's and Butlers (kind of like how STAT benefited from having to guard PF's on defense). Barnes may not start from game one, but he will earn the starting spot and take the pressure of Bell. Hill will lead the second unit with his ball handling, along with Diaw at the 4 and Lopez at the 5, while Barbosa sticks to guarding point guards on defense and playing 2-guard on offense. Dragic will do the opposite, play point and guard 2's. The only problem for me, STILL, is if SHAQ goes down, we only have Lopez to play center. I really don't feel Amundson can be an effective center, a PF for sure defensively and on the boards, but its just too hard to bang bigger guys night in and night out, especially when your the only big on the bench and there's no1 that can take your spot if you get in foul trouble.

That's a good point, SD, and I haven't seen it noted in other threads - while we've addressed depth at other positions, and have a coach likely to actually use those players, we're still thin at the 5. And both our centres are foul-prone.
That makes Amare our third-string centre. Or Diaw. Man, it would have been nice to keep Skinner.
I hope we pick someone up from the DLeague or someone waived/cut elsewhere as insurance.

^ Thing is, we wont unless we truly need to, because we don't want to go deeper into lux tax. So, unless we know for a fact that either Shaq or Amare are out for an extended period of time, which I can gaurantee Shaq probably will be, there is a very slim chance of piking someone up. Thing is, even if we decide to, the list of candidates is probably VERY short, and we're gonna have to settle for someone average, or maybe even below average. Best thing I see is a minor trade for a team who needs a 3rd string guard to give us a big for Singletary..

I feel vindicated after watching both Grant and Barnes on the floor together in the second half

I like Grant coming off the bench. The bench is solid just needs time to gel and get some more playtime with some starters as Porter figures out his rotation. Dragic will guard whoever is the bigger threat of the PG, SG, Barbosa can go for passing lanes defending the weaker of the two. I like Lopez banging down low with the bigger PF, C and allowing Diaw to hit the boards(read that frenchie) and go into the post more on offense. Grant will get it going and serve as the jack of all trades and go to guy of the 2nd team.

as I stated in the beginning of this thread I thought this offense worked the best when it was feeding it into the posts for both Amare and Shaq, unlike Tsherkin I didn't want Suns to get into a high scoring run and gun, but be choosy about when Shaq outletted to Nash. My thoughts came to fruition and the Suns got the W.

I love Hill off the bench, the way he calms them down and actually keeps his dribble as opposed to Barbosa who gave it up on cue past halfway. Dragic looks like he'll be ok, but needs time to get used to the NBA game

I like the staring five the way it is because Hill coming off the bench gives the suns a leader when Nash is off the floor. Just because Hill and Barnes worked vs portland last nite does not mean its going to work every night. I like having Bell at the two so he can just focus on his defense and spot up shooting.

I liked how TP adjusted during the game. If MD was coaching that wouldnt have happened. Hill and Barnes does not guarantee that Bell will hit his shots so why even make the move? There is 48 minutes in a game and four 12 minute quarters does it really matter who starts?
