Ty Law anybody ?

Post#1 » by MajorDad » Fri Oct 17, 2008 5:15 am

read the realgm article. link above

Ty Law says he wants to come back and play this year. and he could play this week. but he only wants to play for the packers or Cowboys. he's a good buddy of Woodson from their michigan college days. he claims his addition would guarantee a superbowl birth. any takers? We do have the financial flexibility to sign him.

I'm not sure if harris is as healthy as he says he is.

I don't think ty law would make us any worse, another veteran to help those young guys would be cool. why not.

As long as he is in game shape and ready to go, I don't know why we wouldn't take a shot and bring him in. Another veteran in the secondary can only be a positive and would hopefully cut down on the amount of attention and penalties our rooks are getting.

Source?
are you referring to this
Law said he believes he could help Dallas or Green Bay advance to the postseason and the first Sunday in February.

That's hardly a guarantee. Or did u read it somewhere else.

Regarding Ty Law: Ill take him in a heartbeat.

Who would you cut to keep that old bastard and who would he beat out? If Harris is close to coming back it would come down to Law vs. Blackmon for the dime and it would EASILY be Blackmon. I get a good laugh at how people think these old guys who were once very good, like 5 years ago, still can play at any level.

I 2nd that but Bush is decent on ST and TT loves youth. Won't happen.

Its cool though that even at 3-3 a vet would specify the Pack to play for.

If we haven't signed him already why would we sign him now with Harris out just this week yet? Tramon will be a great nickelback the rest of the way. Why stunt his development?

He said in the article that he's at his playing weight in which he's been at for his career. He said he's been training in Florida and could walk out on Sunday and play right now.

XTitan, how can you rip on how old he is and that he was only good 5 years ago? The guy had 10 picks in 05 for the Jets. And 6 in his two years with KC. He's played in all 16 games the past 3 years.

Realize our best 2 corners are 32 and 33, Law is 34. I would love to bring him in if the price is right. Unfortunately I can see Law asking for way too much.

This league suffers from bad corners, if he had anything left wouldn't he be playing? I thought I read Parcells tried him out and it appears he passed on him....I don't like Jarret Bush, but Law is not going to be a gunner on special teams and he sure as hell won't beat out Williams, who I believe is better than Harris at this point.

Wouldn't you think money could of been an issue with Parcells? I also think relying on Harris at this point would be risky. I'd like to bring him in, if he stinks it up, release him. I agree that Harris is on a rapid decline. But one more injury to our secondary and we're in trouble.

I kind of wondered at Ty law's motivation and why he didn't sign with a team earlier. he claims it's not about the money. his claim is that he wanted to sit out and watch and then join a team that has a viable chance to go to the super bowl. kind of like junior Seau did.

Looking around, I don't see any team in the NFC west as a viable super bowl team. the Vikings, bears an packers will probably all finish 9-7. Atlanta will have a good record. The eagles, wash and Dallas should all get 10 wins. there are a lot of teams in the NFC with a chance. Would Ty law make the difference? doubtful.

Ty law expressed interest in the Packers and cowboys primarily because both teams had just lost their starting CB and their future return is questionable. I could see Ty law saying he'd sign with the Chargers or Colts next week if they lost a corner.

two things that are not said in the article. We hear Ty law talking and not TT. TT's history is if a guy goes down, he plugs the hole from within. when Walker went down, TT first looked from within to fill his shoes. When harris went down, TT didn't immediately call Ty law. while Ty law may want to play for the packers and he may feel he can still contribute, it's not his deision to make, it's TT's.

The other thing that is not being talked about is harris' real health. i'm not so sure he is as healthy as he claims to be. i've seen a lot of other football players who forgoe surgery and return early only to re-injure themselves in their first game back and require season and career ending surgery. San diego's merriman is just "ONE" example of a football player who thought he could play through his injury and neglected to listen to his doctor's initial advice. Sterling Sharpe is another closer to home example. Jon kitna is another example. he claims he can play through the pain of his bulging disk. We all saw how great Kitna played. Tony Romo and bret favre are two more examples of guys who think they can play through pain. I guess with enough pain killers and cortisone shots, they feel they can do anything.

I'd like to see the packers sign Ty law, but i doubt TT does. if Tt really wanted him, he would have signed him 3 weeks ago.

mysource/link was the real gm article above.

Yeah, I'm just suspicious of this timing. If we do it we do it three weeks ago if at all.

I've ripped TT for not bringing it vet help in the offseason, but I'm not a big guy to do it midseason, especially with a guy that's been out there all along and might take a while to get up to speed.

If TT had took a Melvin posture that we're going for it now during the offseason I would say definitely yes when Harris went down.

But since he's not taking that posture and Harris might be close to returning I don't see any reason why.

Although as mentioned I would do it just to get rid of Bush.

Oh crap, a good special teams guy!!! (Like Tracy White). Wherever will we find another one of those? Hint: again, we just cut one. Real hard to get a Jarrett Bush/Nick Sorensen type special teams guy in the late rounds of the draft.

Bush must go!!!!! Although I admit I feel alot better with him not playing actual defense.

We'll find out on Sunday if our secondary is any good. My guess is it is and we need D-line depth more. Now if the Gravedigger wanted to play I would think about that....

I'd try him out at least and see just how slow he runs. Law never relied much on speed and instead on smarts/instincts, but any corner has to be able to run at a certain level to be able to survive out there.

Out Bush, In Law? I don't know? okay lets do it. WTF? If he wants to come here and Tompson will do it why not. Never hurts to have a guy like that on the team, we'll still have enough speed in the secondary.

Not exactly sure. He is a physical type player and with his older age I'm sure he could play that type pf set.

I have to believe after today's game, Ty law received a panic call from jerry Jones and will be wearing cowboy stars real soon. With Williams out for the year, and pacman probably gone forever, and the cowboys looking like cowpies, jerry's getting a little nervous.
