Frank did it vs Miami to test the waters and I can see it being used on occasion during the reg. season.
Most people now see the starting unit as what was shown vs Celtics:
PG - Devin
SG - Vince
SF - Simmons
PF - Yi
C - Boone
wholesale change when subbing..what would make a "good" 2nd unit ?
PG - Dooling
SG - CDR (I know but I want Najera / Anderson combo & outside of Ager no one left is really a natural 2)
SF - Najera
PF - Anderson
C - Lopez
using SWat , Swift, Hassell, Hayes + ... ? depending on matchups/energy/etc.
Positives of wholesale change is each unit would feel comfortable playing with one another + most importantly fresh legs can have Nets keep up high tempo offense and/or hustle/energy defense. Throw in VC in 2nd unit when they drag in scoring...?
I think if used on occasion this may benefit the Nets since outside of VC & Devin the talent/performance level isn't really drastic esp. on frontcourt. Frank can even get tips for the Czar about it hah.

Re: 5 man sub ? (1st Unit / 2nd Unit)
Personally, if Frank were to employ a 5-out, 5-in method (which I think would be effective with this team), IMO the roster should be like this:
Harris, Carter, Simmons, Jianlian, Boone
Dooling, Hassell, Najera, Williams, Lopez
Ager, Roberts, Hayes, Anderson, Swift
Also, for lineups, I am big on "looks". What I mean is, a coach sends out a combination of players SPECIFICALLY designed to give you whatever a he (/she) feels that they lack at the time. I think that it is a very effective non-verbal form of communication from coach to player. It makes the team think, "when this guy and that guy are in the game with me, coach is looking for (fill in the blank)".
The Hustle + Muscle look: Harris, Hassell, Simmons, Najera, Boone (with Carter or Lopez)
The Attacking Uptempo look: Dooling, Roberts, Hayes, Jianlian, Williams (with Anderson)
The Small Ball look: Harris, Dooling, Carter, Simmons, Boone (with CDR)
The BIG look: Harris, Carter, Najera, Boone, Lopez
Note that these "looks" are designed to shock opposing defenses for 3-4 minutes stretches while our other regulars rest. I would NOT prescribe that Frank should ride with any of these looks for an entire quarter or something.

Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

Re: 5 man sub ? (1st Unit / 2nd Unit)
I think one of the worst things in the past during the Kidd era was Frank's sub patterns, especially with how thin our depth usually was. I'm still not locked in with this feeling of 4-5-man subs as a great way to develop players. We had "depth" the last two years of the Kidd era, but the bench players weren't playing with the starters. They'd play horribly against the other team's starters and 6th-7th men and they don't develop well.

I think with: Devin
VC
Simms
Yi
Boone
we can get off to a quick start scoring with this lineup.
Now that we have the lead lol. I would bring in the defense so we can sustain the lead instead of blowing it like we always do.First guys off the bench in the 1st quarter would be Sean and Najera for Yi and Simms. Then sometime in the 2nd quarter i would bring in Brook,CDR and Dooling. That would be my rotation. As for the rest of the players they'll all get a shot at playing (except Ager) if they do good they'll get some minutes it's up to them.
