UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben, 9 pm Sat Oct 18, Free on SpikeTV
Well, this event has lost a lot of steam, and has always had a weak main event, but it's free and it's actually a pretty good card.
MAIN CARD
* Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben
* Keith Jardine vs. Brandon Vera
* Luiz Cane vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
* Chris Lytle vs. Paul Taylor
* Shane Carwin vs. Neil Wain
* Marcus Davis vs. Paul Kelly
PRELIMINARY CARD
* Akihiro Gono vs. Dan Hardy
* David Bielkheden vs. Jess Liaudin
* Terry Etim vs. Sam Stout
* David Baron vs. Jim Miller
* Per Eklund vs. Sammy Schiavo
Bisping vs. Leben is a good fight, just not a good main event. I'm looking forward to it, and I expect Bisping to get his first big win at MW.
Jardine vs. Vera could be very good or very bad. If both guys come out aggressive, it should be a hell of a fight between two talented LHWs. If they come out tentative and looking to win a decision, then it could be a snoozer. I think Jardine takes a boring decision.
Luiz Cane vs. Sokodjou. It would be nice to see Soko just run through someone in 30 seconds again. Luiz Cane isn't a pushover, but Soko should be able to finish this fight.
Lytle vs. Taylor is going to be **** awesome. I'm hoping Lytle wins, and if he does, I think it will be by submission.
Shane Carwin vs. Neil Wain is a nice showcase for Carwin, who has been dominating people. He's 9-0 with his longest fight being 2:11 into the first round. I hope that pattern continues. Definitely a guy to look out for at HW; hopefully he starts getting more attention with a win on the main card of a PPV.
Davis vs. Kelly is another awesome fight. These guys will probably just stand and throw, and I think Davis will get the best of it.
Some of the prelims are pretty good too. Gono is fighting Dan Hardy, who I have heard a lot about. All of the other fights are at LW or WW, so there's the potential for some very exciting fights; I hope we get to see them.

Davis vs Kelly, Lytle vs Taylor and the main event I'm all interested in.
Next week's UFC 90, though, is absolutely killer. I've said it before, but the fact the UFC was (Please Use More Appropriate Word) enough to go 3-4 years without any LWs is just ridiculous. Almost all the exciting fights are 155 or 170 at this point, esp for next week's card. 6-7 of them.

Cane isn't some can being brought in for Soko to destroy. He has a lot more stand-up experience than Soko and this fight might open your eyes to him. I don't think he will win, but it will be very competitive. Soko is pretty overrated and has a career built off of two lucky punches against opponents who had basically 2 weeks notice to figure out they were fighting him.
Carwin doesn't train with anyone but himself, basically the Houston Alexander technique. In the future this will destroy him, but it won't matter until the UFC gives him a real opponent. Bisping v. Leben should be an exciting fight, and Jardine v. Vera will be fireworks (Vera may have boring fights, but he doesn't have the strength or reach to dictate the pace of this fight).
This card kind of sucks, I wouldn't even watch it if it wasn't free. 90 is average or below average (the main card has two joke fights including the main event), and 91 is terrible (though most november cards are). Can't wait till 92 and 94 though. Great cards.

This card isn't stacked with names, but I think it's stacked with good matchups, which should make exciting fights.
Carwin has been training with Couture to get him ready for Lesnar, so I'm thinking he'll pick up a thing or two himself.

see I honestly don't see many close matchups. Stout Etim should be exciting but Stout will probably outpoint him on their feet. Schiavo Eklund is irrelevant. Liuedin is being brought in to get destroyed by Dave b. Carwin should KO the fatso he is fighting. Baron is getting his fight because he got a lucky submission over Mach. Gono should walk through Hardy as long as he plays it smart on his feet. Lytle should TKO Taylor on the ground. Davis better freaking beat Kelly. Jardine Vera should be fun, no idea on that one, you can't really know what you are getting with either of them. If it lasts longer than a minute I would prob have to give the edge to Jardine. Soko v. Cane is just about who gets off first, and the main event should be competitive and exciting.
90 started off as a great card, but then Reljic dropped out. and Melvin got sent away for being a coke head, and his fight with Spencer Fisher would have been great fireworks. And for some reason Werdum is fighting a can. I'm just pissed that we prob won't be able to see Franca v. Tibeau.

It's a free card haha. It wasn't thaaaat bad...but ya, it was pretty bad.
The Vera vs Jardine was terrible. Vera is my least favorite fighter. He always finds away to make a fight boring, and its like he gets to a point where he thinks o.k, im winning on points so now i just need to do nothing and ride this out.
The UFC should can him. He's brutal, hopefully this knocks him down the ladder big time.
I actually liked the Bisping vs Leban fight. That was entertaining.
Lytle looked gassed after the first minute of the second round. He was terrible.

I actually enjoyed this card more than I thought I would. I picked Davis, Cane, Jardine and Bisping to win so I was psyched to sweet my picks. I really like Davis and I thought that was a really good fight. The Lytle fight was decent but it definitely slowed down. But man, Taylor is going to be something in the future if he looked that fresh at the match ending bell. Man.
I really hate Brandon Vera. He does absolutely nothing for me and everything I see that clip where he's celebrating with his hand near his face (you all know the obnoxious clip I'm talking about, it's one of like two highlight clips for him), I want to tear his testicles off and choke him to death with them. I'm not the biggest Jardine fan but I've heard people that do like him say he never has a boring fight. Well he finally had one and I'm going ot give him the benefit of the doubt and say it wasn't his fault the fight sucked. I think this was Vera's last fight on his contract. If the UFC can finalize a fight in the Philippines for the first quarter of 2009, they might bring Vera back but the LHW division is stacked and he is just taking up space right now. I hope they drop him, I really do.
I enjoyed the Bisping/Leben fight. I don't think Leben's going to be hurt much by the loss because it was a pretty hard fought, he took a ton of punishment, and he kept coming. What the fight does show is he needs to re-tool his game and approach a bit more because Bisping was just sitting back and picking him apart. If he ever wants to sniff a title shot again, he needs to work on streamlining his stand-up a bit more or finding some way to open up holes for those loopy punches. mahalo

I can't believe that. They've so babied Bisping to found their UK base, to send him to a guaranteed slaughter would be dumb.

Re: UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben, 9 pm Sat Oct 18, Free on SpikeTV
It wasn't a bad card (just no big names), and it wasn't a bad night of fights.
Even the worst fight wasn't one of those fights where you can tell from the first round that it's going to a decision, and you're just waiting for it to get there.
Lytle vs. Taylor was a very entertaining fight, even if it got a little sloppy in round 2 and 3.
I wasn't paying full attention to all of the fights because I watched it at a bar with some friends, but I thought it was a pretty good event, all things considered.

Soko should be sent to the minor leagues or something. He badly needs some experience fighting some cans and gaining some confidence. Rogan was commenting that Soko goes all guns blazing the first 2 minutes and then fizzles out. That's exactly what happened saturday night. Props to Cane for systematically picking Soko apart. He took every one of Soko's strikes with a smile and kept on coming. The fight basically went like Machida's fight with Soko.

^ WTF, what has bisping done to deserve that in the MW division.... or his entire career for that matter. Total BS

I heard BJ was going to coach next season. Probably just a rumor, but I heard it from a dude that is more than likely going to be on next seasons show.SpReEfOrAlL wrote:cowboyronnie wrote:I can't believe that.
