Re: Official Offseason Thread
I was listening to Max Kellerman a few minutes ago. He was suggesting a Cano/Kennedy+ deal for Jake Peavy. I think that is a pretty good idea. I'd imagine Kennedy doing pretty well in Petco, probably an under 3 ERA in the NL West plus that monstrous ball park. Cano would instantly become their 2nd best hitter. He's young and cost controlled, question is the rumor of Peavy comes because the owner wants to cut salary. Would the drop from Peavy to Cano be enough of a drop? Maybe the Yankees have to pick up some of the cash. Would you do it? Would they? I certainly think they would do it if the Yankees were to include someone like a Zach McAllister or Dellin Betances as the 3rd player and maybe a ready power arm for the 4th guy like a David Robertson or Jose Veras. I'd say if the deal was Peavy for Cano/Kennedy/McAllister/Veras, it would be an interesting deal but I'd do it. Thoughts? -Jitpal

Re: Official Offseason Thread
My plan for the Offseason is something like this:
sign:
CC Sabathia (I'm guessing 5 years 112 million), sign Manny (3 years, 66million)
trade Matsui, Philip Hughes, Ian Kennedy and some other B level prospect for Jake Peavy.
move Posada to 1st base. just convince him its for the betterment of the team
resign either Mussina or Pettite, one of them
that leaves us.
hitting:
Damon-lf
Jeter-ss
Manny-dh
Arod-3B
Poada-1B
Nady-RF
Cano-2b
Melky-CF
Molina-C
sp:
Sabathia
Peavy
Wang
Chamberlain
Mussia/Pettite

I have Chamberlain in the pen for now.
I think that's on the low side for Sabathia. I think it would be something closer to 6/138 (23 per year). I really don't see the Yankees wanting to sign Manny, but let's forget that part, they would not make Manny the highest paid player in the game. For two reasons, the Yankees don't like to set the market on other team's players and because of Arod.
The Dodgers really don't need Matsui. They have Either, Kemp, and Pierre. I'd imagine they would look to keep Manny if they could. Plus, where would Matsui play? There is no DH and he can't play the OF on a regular basis. Plus, Penny is coming off of Shoulder surgery, you can't slot him into the 3rd spot in the rotation. That package isn't enough for Peavy unless you added like McAllister, Montero and Jackson while picking up Matsui's salary. Even then Matsui might veto that trade.
Posada isn't moving to 1B. He has emphatically said that he is a catcher and he wants to catch everyday. Now I could see them doing a 3/5 split with Posada where he catches 3 out of every 5 days instead of 4/5 but I don't think Posada would agree to that. Agreed with bringing only one of Mussina or Pettitte back. -Jitpal

Boras is allegedly looking for 5/85 for Manny; the Yanks shouldn't even look at him if he wants a long deal.

Re: Official Offseason Thread
He'll probbaly get it with the way the dodgers have played since acquiring him... A team with money in dire need of a bat is gonna sign him. Seattle, Toronto, mets, St louis all come to mind..

So the Cubs are looking at ManRam

the article suggest theyd have to move Soriano to do so. if thats the case. Soriano is who we should get to solve our CF issue IMO he played in NY so we all know he can handle the pressure, he gives us speed, power. basically everything we'd lose with abreu if he goes we'd gain back with soriano. except for abreu's plate discipline.
what do u think it would take player/prospect wise and to take on the rest of his contract?
seem like a plausible idea? im sure its unlikely but it could be a good move to make

Re: Official Offseason Thread
I want no part of Soriano. He'll be 33 in January and has six seasons left on an overpay contract. Once his power starts declining he's going to be a pretty useless player.
I'm fine with standing pat in the outfield personally. It's not an ideal situation, but it's better than a lot of what's out there. Maybe take a flier on Adam Dunn and Milton Bradley to see if either one is getting lowballed with their offers.

Re: Official Offseason Thread
I loved Soriano when he was here at 2B but he's a choke artist in the playoffs outside of that one HR and his contract is huge. He's also a stat-stuffer and a strikeout machine. I'd rather look elsewhere.

Hell no to Soriano. We can get a lot of the same benefits of acquiring him by picking up Juan Pierre. Pierre has no power at all but considering the big difference in contracts I would prefer less power.

I know there haven't been any rumors of this but I would love to get Roberts 2B (Balt). He is the kind of player that "grinds" out wins....ala Brosius, O'Neil, Tino and Girardi in the day. That's what wins titles.
Cano may have worn out his welcome. However, if you keep him you better get Bowa back to keep his head on straight (and actually coach third....unlike Meacham).

It's really tough to trade a big time player within the division. Plus, the rumors earlier were that they were asking for 4-5 ML-Ready prospects for him. Would you be willing to do a Jackson/Kennedy/Veras/+ deal for a guy on the wrong side of 30? For a similar price we could probably acquire Jake Peavy or Matt Holliday. -Jitpal
