Ok, I've not seen any of the guys play so I have to rely on stats and reports. Who do you think will make the team and fill the last 2 spots? Salim has reinjured his groin, which is usually the case with such an injury without rest so I figure the Eddie House experiment is now over, I think Tolliver-Watkins-Farmer are the three favorites. What are the needs at this time with Manu injured? Ian is out and I think adding another big would be good. Tolliver seems to rebound fairly well but Watkins seems to bang and protect the paint decently(based on stats and such, lol). Tollver is said to be more like Bonner which may put him out unless the Spurs plan to trade Bonner and keep Tolliver. Farmer seems to be more of a surprise and more of what the practice team needs to give the Spurs another dynamic. I don't actually expect the Spurs to sign another point because of Mason, Udoka Hill, Vaughn and the return of Manu all being capable of filling the spot for filler time when Parker goes out. There aren't any break out pg's so that posistion leaves them as odd men out. Versatile bigs and wings are what I expect to fill the needs. Who would that be?

Likely it will be Tolliver making the cut and hopefully we can offload Bonner.
I'd like to see Watkins get a shot at the side we need another athletic big man. But he has been getting limited run so don't know.
I wouldn't be suprised if either Farmer/Hairston gets a spot either.

Farmer sure wants to be a Spur. Based on what I was reading from the game (on ESPN's GAMECAST) he seems to have a talent that may not need to be overlooked.

I want Farmer and Hairston on the team..I don't want Salim..

Tolliver is a lock..

I REALLY hope we can find a trade for Bonner, and do something with Vaughn..I like JV, but Hill is just better than him in every aspect of the game, even with no experience..

I hope Booner and Vaughn can be packaged up and moved to make room for these young players trying to make the roster. Farmer could turn out to be a gem like Ginobili and when you have players like Finley, Bowen and Ginobili showing guys how to be professional then you can afford to take that chance and rid yourself of cap. Orlando needs a point and a power forward so perhap we can send those two off for some draft picks or something.

I don't know much about Hairston and Tolliver seems to make Bonner expendable for less money.

Can't say i'm disappointed. It's good news for Farmer though, i think he's almost a lock now.

Now the bigman will be out of Hairston and Tolliver.

Hairston/Farmer
Tolliver

Looks like the bench is younger and can be groomed over the course of THIS SEASON, making cap room for potential big names and unloading contracts/players that will be gone next year.

Finley will be gone after this season, Bonner won't fit into plans beyond his contract, Bowen is grooming his replacement(s), Mason I'm unsure about but will be dependant upon the play of either Hairston or Farmer( more likely Farmer) to decide his expendability. The bigs will be an area of concentration for the future.

Barring an unforeseen series of events it looks as if Tolliver has the final big man spot all but stitched up. I don't really have a problem with this, he's made solid contributions on the boards and has a nice offensive game.

So it looks to be a battle between Hairston and Farmer. I've been on the Hairston bandwagon since the draft and I really believe the Spurs should keep him. He's athletic, strong, a good rebounder and tough defensively. also he does his offensive work inside, which is something we don't have from our current wing players.

I think we need that off the bench. If what you say is true about Hairston then both could be brought in and sent to the D League to develop for next season when we'll really have use for them.

I think we need to get rid of Jacque and Bonner to open some roster spots.

I like both Hairston and Farmer. Farmer has been deadeye from three and Hairson is a good allround player and defender.

It is basically up to those two... it is coin flip. I would side with Farmer. We need scoring more than D in my opinion.

From what I've read, i really like both of Hairston/Farmer as young, athletic players - but I'd also take Farmer over Hairston because of his scoring ability.

I don't wanna lose either guy..we're gonna end up regretting it IMO, that's guaranteed..Vaughn is completely useless right now, so he needs to be given a spot as a coach, and be taken off the roster..

I don't know much about these guys, I haven't had the priviledge to SEE them on tv because most of the game shown are Lakers game even during the preseason, I don't have NBA TV either so I rely on ESPN's GAmecast, fan reports and news across the net.

From the information I've obtained, Farmer is the choice I'd go with but I've heard some interesting things about Hairston.

Remember, next summer is suppose to be a great FA summer and the Spurs have that in mind too. Tolliver is on a NEED basis. With Bonner and Vaughn holding roster spots it would be hard to do much unless you can package these two for some draft picks (2nd round)or something like that.

I will admit that Farmer is the more refined scorer right now, but that's to be expected because he's 27 years old. Hairston himself was no slouch on the offensive end himself in college and can definitely become an asset in that area.
Also when Manu comes back from injury where does that leave Farmer? A 27 year old who has pretty muched tapped his potential, sitting on the IR.

Yeah, but it will be nice to know you can throw he and Manu in the game to POTENTIALLY score, unlike last season when Manu was hurt and Finley, Bowen etc were not able.

Hairston was waived today, so Desmon Farmer has made the cut. I must say that I'm a little bit perplexed and perhaps even disappointed at this move.
Farmer is pretty much what he is as a player. We have to consider that the Spurs must surely know this. So the exciting conclusion I have come to is that they must believe he can contribute now.
Or perhaps that's just wishful thinking on my part.

I definitely like having a player like Farmer on the team, and on the bench

But I hope there is something for Hairston in the future with us
