Yi Talk (Merging) Current Topic: Is Yi A Legit Talent?
I just got finishing reading this, and I got to say I agree with him. Yi is going to be a huge part of our season:
http://thenetsarescorching.wordpress.com/2008/10/22/yi-jianlian-key-to-nets-success/
I really like the idea of running a pick and roll offense, but with a high-tempo. The only thing is Yi isn't the only player that needs to step up...both Devin and Vince need to have big years for us to do things. Also, anything we get out of Brook will be key.

Re: Yi Key To Nets Success
I somewhat agree with this blog.
I dont think Yi is the key to the Nets success. I think he is a part of it.
I dont want to point one player as the key but I will point out that Frank needs to change his offensive priorities.
Lopez should be the starting center and the ball should go through him from the very start. When he not on the court, Frank can do all those other dribble & drives and any other dink and dunks he wants.

Cool link, thanks for posting. I agree with you about Yi being a part of the Nets success. I also agree with you on the Brook comment somewhat. I say we bring Brook off the bench for the 1st half of the season (or until he proves himself ready). But when he is ready can you imagine Yi and Brook two 7 footers one inside and one outside. Should be fun to watch.

he brings shooting to tis club, if we can have 10-15pts nightly, that would be nice, he is a better mans version of miki moore when he played for the Nets...

I agree with your assessment now. Hopefully, and this is what the Nets are hoping for too, he develops into the player he can be.

I dont want to compare him to Mikki Moore.
Yi should be way better the Moore. That year Moore was playing for a contract. He helped but he isnt that good.

no im not really comparing him to miki, but miki was good at shooting the baselines,up top, etc, i think that Yi can be that and better with more athelitism, more post, more aggresive, i expect yi, to become a cornerstone of the Nets...

Well the Nets cut Gill, Hodge, Hamilton and KVH, so the roster is at 15. I doubt we make a move now. This team is interesting. Lets see how things go. I think we'll have some changes before the deadline (i.e. We'll move a big man we don't have long term faith in to clear some room in the log jam or we get an offer we can't refuse.)

Re: Yi Key To Nets Success
Damn, I wish we would have signed Hodge and cut Ager, but for a seldom used bench guy, money obviously rules.
He looked pretty good in the game against the Knicks though, except the back to back TOs bringing the ball up in like a 30 second span.

Hodge will eventually find a spot on an NBA roster. Even with getting shot like 7 times in his leg, he's still 10X better than 75% of the NBDL.

Re: Yi Key To Nets Success
i don't agree with you.
I think Nets are horrible this year.
Harris is over-rated as a pass first PG.
Yi is below average Tall talented, compare to Marc Gasol.

I think arguement was if Harris was a true point guard...which I personally do...I do not think he's the prototypical Jason Kidd pass first point guard nor will he ever be...I do believe he's a floor leader who is capable of making things happen with the Nets offense...I see 5-7 asts a game...thats where I'm hoping he falls...some nights he does look like a 4 asst pg...but if he is dropping 21pts a game...you take that with a grain a salt w/ the potential ability of the Nets to move the ball as a team...(the Nets are going to be swining the ball quickly from right to left with regularity, when they're unable to push ball up the court or drive the lane...you should see good things here and some team assists)
Yi is definitely below Gasol...but your statement is laughable...how long did it take for NBA fans to see the present Marc Gasol??? Yi just started his career...give him couple of years before you go out and make bold predictions...
and thanx for you vote of confidence in the Nets overall

I agree.
The guy is a stiff.
Probably a career 10 ppg, 5 rpg guy in around 30 mpg.
He isn't even entertaining in my opinion, painful to watch.

I agree with both of you, just because he is getting points on a poor...super poor Grizz team, people are saying he's an all-star. I would take Yi (on potential alone) over him anyday. Brook too, but that's not even a question.

I think you jumped the gun here.
No one said he was the next shaq. There will never be a next shaq.

What are you talking about?
The next Shaq is Andrew Bynum, just ask any Lakers fan.

Re: Yi Key To Nets Success
I think Yi obviously has the potential to be a player in this league. But to be honest, I think Gasol will be more productive than him. Gasol's a motor guy. You give guys like that enough minutes and they'll get their share of garbage points and rebounds on a daily basis. Whereas, someone like Yi will probably have games where he'll have 18 points and 8 rebounds, then go two games with 8 points and 3 rebounds, then have a game with 25 and 6, followed by 5 and 2.

Gasol and Yi are 2 completely different players. It's pointless to compare them in my opinion.
