Speights Inactive

Post#1 » by Fire BK » Tue Oct 28, 2008 4:32 am

Marreese Speights got squeezed from the opening 12 actives...

Here's the opening day active roster:

Miller / Lou / Ivey
Iggy / WG / Rush'
Thad / Donyell
EB / Evans
Sam / Theo

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/Spe ... n_out.html

A bit surprising... Personally, I'd prefer seeing Speights over WG. But WG is making too much money to be inactive... The kid will get his chance in due time. We shall see...

evans active over speights...typical nba crap.
who cares if a 21 year old is inexperienced, hes the BETTER BASKETBALL PLAYER.
oh well...speights will tear evans a new a-hole so bad in practice that they will be forced to activate the kid.

They might as well deactivate Young as well. But really, Ivey, Ratliff, and Evans over Speights? WHY? :x

It's only because league rules force them to keep Ivey on the active roster while he is serving his suspension. They could not leave Rush off since he is the back up SF and shooter. I guess they could have inactivated Marshall, but its really no big deal at this point. I'm also sure this is partly to keep Speights motivated. No doubt the kid should be able to earn minutes this season.

hmm... can't say I agree with this, but I'm confident it won't last long.

He better be swapped by Ivey when possible.

A little disappointing, but I've been telling people since the Summer League to temper down their expectations, that Speights is a 21 year old rookie who only truly played for one season in college, that he is raw, that this is a veteran team, and that he won't get a lot of minutes right off the bat.

I didn't even know Ivey was suspended. After looking it up, it seems like he and Reggie are gonna make great friends.

Well... this won't last long given the age of some of the guys on our bench. If you look at our big man rotation, this does make sense for now but I doubt that it will last. Also, if Speights does continue to show he's ready is practice, I believe Reggie Evans will be moved.

Does anyone here think Reggie Evans will still be on this team come March? Actually, I guess he could be if we have a frontcourt injury but other than that, I think Evans will be moved in a deal that not only frees up minutes for Speights but also relieves Evans' salary off of our books.

I wouldnt worry - I believe this is the result of the Ivey suspension - I dont believe it will stay this way

And yes I agree with you TGP - When speights is able to show that he is ready and can do what Evans does, Evans will be moved

Given the size of his contract, yes. Not to say there isn't a chance he'll be unloaded, but I think it'll be mighty difficult to get rid of him without giving up something of value in order for a team to take his contract.

This is where BK giving Booth two years comes back to bite Stefanski. If Booth would have be given only one year, Ed would've likely been able to hold on to the Utah pick in the Carney deal. Having that Utah pick could've been a big help in unloading a guy like Reggie or Willie. Now if Ed gives up a pick to unload a high salary player, it'll be our own.

It's true that Evans could be hard to deal since he'll have 2.5 years at about $5MIL per left on his deal in January but I wouldn't say that his deal is completely unmovable. Will he get an expiring for it? No, but I think he may be able to turn him into 2 lower quality players with one who may have an expiring deal. Either way, I think Speights will be taking up some of Evans/Ratliff's minutes come February.

I am fine with this move FOR NOW. I wish Willie were inactive, but that isn't happening. I truly believe he is the worst player out of these 13. So I hope Rush, Donyell or Theo are the odd man out long term.

Why all the Reggie hate? He is surely a valuable member of this team and one could speculate that his work ethic is very positive for a team as young as this. I imagine practicing against Evans is about as good of an exercise as you could think up of for Speights.

What are you talking about, keep him motivated? How do you know he is not already motivated. The real truth is Speights played very well in pre-season and should not be deactivated for any games. It's a bonehead move by Mo Joe and the organization. Marshall on the roster over Speights is a complete joke. Who is Marshall going to guard? If it's for 2 games our bench will suffer for 2 games. Mo Joe, Mo Joe, Mo Joe, this coach never seems to surprise me.

I was going to buy a ticket and sit courtside tomorrow, but that takes care of that. The 76ers can do what they want, but I can do what I want.

Me and Is have always agreed on Mo. But I believe that Ratliff is the back-up C. and Marshall is an additional shooter to go along with Rush. Ivey because of his suspension takes a slot. Which hurts. But it's only for the first 2 games of the season, no biggie.

Geiger: Mo and every else, have Speights as the first big off the bench after Theo. Ivey just happened to be an idiot and we signed him :(.
