Top 5 Busts/Steals?

Post#1 » by bryant08 » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:53 am

Hey guys,

I've played some fantasy b-ball before, but this is the first year I really want to give it a go in terms of activity and making sure guys are playing on that given night and what not. My Yahoo draft is tomorrow afternoon and I was wondering if you guys could give me some insight on your top 5 busts and steals of this year's draft.

Even if you're thinking guys who could go top 100, I'd like to see what you can come up with. If you want to try and help me out to relate it to my situation, I'm currently in a 10 team league, with the 3 guard, 3 forward, 2 C, 2 Util, 3 bench set up, so a total of 13 players.

Don't draft Ramon Sessions... Be wary of Nene, it's tempting to think "Oh hey Nene is starting he's going to put up good stats!" but realistically speaking his stats have never been that good AND we all know he's a walkinig injury... Don't sleep on Antwan Jamison or John Salmons (especially with Fracisco Garcia out)... Remember Rasheed he doesn't dominate rebounds but is a solid source of blocks and threes, and capable of playing PF + C in yahoo leagues... I've seen a couple of drafts where Josh Smith has slipped, I think he becomes more valuable with Childress' departure... Chris Kaman is an interesting case of IDK what to think, will Camby cause his rebounding stats to go down by that much? It's hard to say, I do know that he's not averagin 2.8 bpg again this year... Remember Vince Carter, the Nets might suck but he can fill up every category... Remember Rajon Rondo, his FT% hurts but he's a good source of steals.

Off the top of my head that's all I can think of... I might take the time to make another post tomorrow. Good luck with your draft!

Guys I am happy to draft higher than current average draft position:
Wade @ #5
Carmelo Anthony @ #30
Vince Carter @ #30
Ron Artest @ #40
David Lee @ #60
Zach Randolph @ #75
JR Smith @ #95

Guys I don't think are going to live up to their current average draft position (my suggested position in brackets):
Steve Nash (22)
Shawn Marion (24) - If he gets traded to another team, do what you can to get him. He will be back to top 10.
Baron Davis (25)
Chris Bosh (35)
Jose Calderon (45)
Al Horford (80)
TMac (90)

I think cp3 and Amare are the only choices at #1 overall. Amare gives you such a FG% bump along with a FT% bump. No one else in the fantasy realm is even close. So he allows you so much versatility throughout the rest of the draft.

Top 5 busts realtive to their ADP.

Dwight Howard, Baron Davis, Carlos Boozer, Okafer, Tony Parker

Top 5 steals

Josh Smith, Jason Richardson, Chris Kaman, Jamal Crawford, Anthony Parker

IMO, Derrick Rose, Tyrus Thomas and Drew Gooden are all steals given the position they are going.

I have no idea why the "experts" are rating them so low. I drafted them 8-9-10th rounds in a 12 person league.

Battier and Tinsley are a little weak. Battier isn't going to start any more and Tinsley might not play for a while. You may want to consider dropping both of them. Other then that though, nice team. Solid PG's (I think Tony Parker is really underrated) and solid forwards/centers. Manage waivers and FA's well and you're going to do just fine.
Im pretty freakin awesome........
