Villanueva vs. Thornton

Post#1 » by creative1 » Wed Oct 29, 2008 3:23 am

Who do you think is a better pick in a 10 team H2H standard cat league? There stats are almost identical and they have the same position eligibility. I actually have both of them right now and I'm considering dropping one of them for Ronnie Brewer. My weakest categories are FTM, STLS, and ASSTS.

So, which do you think is better and would you drop either for Brewer?

ps - I personally think Thornton is going to have a better year. I think he's more gifted than Villanueva and should perform more consistently on a nightly basis. I'm just scared to drop Villa... but Brewer might make more sense for me in terms of needs.

I like Thornton more. I actually just dropped Villanueva tonight for Tyrus Thomas. It was kind of a panic move after tonight, but I'll let someone else deal with Skiles' tantrums. I could use the help in blocks too.

I like Thornton's game more and I know Villanueva's inconsistency is going to drive me nuts. I would be all over dropping him for Tyrus but unfortunately he got drafted. I grabbed him tonight in another league though. I think he's going to have a big year.

I don't need another SG/SF but I'm really tempted to drop Villanueva for Ronnie Brewer. Again, some of my weakest categories are FTM and STLS. He can single-handedly put me back in the steals game. He's a top 10 STL producer and if I picked him up he would be my leading steals guy. I know he doesn't produce in really any other areas but he also doesn't hurt you. He's got an unusually high FG% for a SG and he scores at a nice clip too. I could see him bumping up to the 15-16ppg range this year. I think he'll also get to the line a fair amount (more than Villanueva).

I hate dropping Charlie because he has a lot of upside but he scares me. And you're right... I hate Skiles tantrums. I already have Bogut but he's forced to play him.

I like the move then, but at the very least I'd say to wait and see how CV does against OKC tomorrow night (I was going to do the same, but I figured TT's double-double would compel someone to jump on him). He might respond well to Skiles' yanking tonight and have a really strong game tomorrow. You figure CV's going to get it going eventually, mostly because the Bucks have no one else worth playing at PF. Letting him go was kind of hard, since I had him pegged as a sleeper and took him in the 11th round, but I figured Tyrus fits my team better, and especially since I have a deluxe version of CV in Zach Randolph already.

I had Ronnie last year and loved him until the Jazz got Korver, which hurt his stats a fair bit. I think a number of people could possibly cut into his minutes on the Jazz - Korver, CJ Miles, and maybe Morris Almond eventually, but I think he's still good for at least 1 steal per 20 minutes, which he should still get every game. His super-high FG% is the icing on the cake.
