Packers got a nice undrafted FA

Here's a JS Story

Rory Johnson isn't the guy I'm talking about, though.

The guy I like is Juwan Simpson.

I liked him a lot before the draft. Not on the first day by any means but as a possible pick in the 4th or fifth.

Simpson started 32 games from 2003-'06 and finished with 243 tackles (18 for loss), four sacks and three interceptions. He pleaded guilty in '06 to a charge of handgun possession without a license and agreed to enter a court-based drug treatment program to resolve a possession of marijuana charge. A charge of receiving stolen property was dropped.

He runs the 40 in 4.56 and has a Wonderlic score of 27.

Character concern, yes. It's why he dropped out of the draft.

But he's good good athleticism and a load of starting experience. I think had he not had the off the field run-ins, he's a late first day pick.

The funny thing is JS says if it doesn't work out we will have egg on our face?

It's not like we took this guy in the 3rd round (even though his talent would normally have most teams considering it), we signed him for nothing. If it doesn't work out who cares.

Does anyone know anything about the FB from USC?

Agreed Profound. How the hell can you get egg on your face for an undrafted FA? If he doesn't mesh you can cut his ass in the first minicamp.

It's almost like the Pack is setting up to go to a 3-4 with all of these talented linebackers.

Not gonna happen. We only have two proven starters on our roster at LB.

I thought this was interesting:

Simpson was arrested in 2005 for marijuana possession, receiving stolen property and carrying an unlicensed firearm. This is all despite the fact that he is a former Academic All-SEC player during the 2005 season, being the recipient of Alabama's Derrick Thomas Award (service award), and Lott Trophy finalist (community service, academics and on field play reward).

Simpson was slated in the top 99 players talent wise in the draft by the SportingNews War Room. I don't know if that will carry over, but he is definitely a good value here.
