First time fantasy player looking for advice

Post#1 » by tetley » Wed Oct 29, 2008 4:07 am

I drafted for the first time tonight in a 10 team 9-cat league (PTS, FG%, FT%, 3PM, TRB, AST, STL, BLK, TO) and I want to know what you guys think of my team:

G- Jason Kidd
G- Kobe Bryant
G- Jason Terry
G- Anthony Parker
G- Manu Ginobili*
F- Ron Artest
F- Shane Battier**
F- David West
F- Carlos Boozer
F- Boris Diaw
C- Samuel Dalembert
C- Zydrunas Ilgauskas

*Forgot he was injured. Assuming he is coming back in December, I might just wait it out...
**Internet messed up and he was the autopick. I'm thinking about dropping him for Etan Thomas (starting for the Wizards) so I can lock up blocked shots and rebounds and improve my FG%.

What do you guys think needs work? I think I'm strong in FG%, FT%, rebounds and steals. Once I sub Thomas for Battier I'll be strong in blocks too. When Manu comes back from injury, I'll be a lot better in 3's and points. The categories I think I need to improve the most are assists and threes. I consider Diaw my most expendable player for sure (especially after dropping Battier for Thomas). I want to try to deal him for a three point shooter or passing guard.

Please give me your input. Thanks.

EDIT: Trade on the table. J-Rich and Murphy for Ilgauskas and Parker. Should I take it? Basically, I gain a lot in 3's and lose a little in blocks and FG%. What do you guys think?

keep battier, thomas will start but hes not been getting starters minutes. Battier is capable of giving u 1 3/1 stl/1 blk, thats rare in fantasy. Was Manu ur 2nd rounder?

Ya, I decided against cutting Battier before I even came back to check this thread. I realized he'd be more valuable all around.

Manu was my 9th pick, followed by Parker, then Battier (computer picked him because my internet connection was messed up) and lastly Diaw. I want to trade Diaw for someone who helps me out in a category of need.

It improves my 3PM and PTS, should break even in boards, decreases my %'s slightly, but it decreases my blocked shots to a futile level. Sam will get 2-2.5, West 1-1.5 and the rest is a mystery. This trade signifies me surrendering blocks completely. I guess ditching blocks isnt all bad because I'd virtually be assured Points, 3PM, and STL each week.

Any second opinions?

I'll do the deal. It sounds like its favored in your way.

Overall, I like your team. Its a 10 team league so obviously you need to have at least 3-4 studs and you do so with Bryant, Kidd, West, and Boozer. Clearly, blocks are your weakness but I'll surrender one stat and be solid with the other 8.

Yeh you have to do that deal ASAP.Big Z IMO well not have the same type of yr that he usually has and Parker wont have those crazy games that Jrich is capable of.Also ive been hearing that LB doesnt want Jrich to take so many 3s and he should take it the basket which should improve his ftm ft% and fg%.He will still take a lot of 3s but they will be smarter shots.Put it this way Jrich worst game will be Parkers best game

I agree, I'm going to make the deal.

G- Kobe, Richardson, Kidd, Terry, Ginobili
F- Boozer, West, Artest, Battier, Diaw
C- Dalembert, Murphy

All of a sudden, I think I'm solid in everything except blocks. My shooting percentage should be somewhere between .470 and .480, my FT% should be between .78 and .790. That should keep my team competitive most nights. Points look good (Kobe with 25, Richardson, Boozer, West, Gino all post about 20, Artest, Terry and Murphy should all put up about 15) and steals should be in the bag, as I have 8 or 9 guys that average 1 per game (Artest 2). Rebounds look solid, but not great, same with turnovers. Three pointers made becomes a position of strength, as all my guards shoot the three, two of my forwards and one of my centers. Assists I'm not really sure.

My updated team:

G- Kidd, Kobe, Terry, Parker, Sessions, Ginobili (INJ)
F- Boozer, Artest, West, Gooden
C- Ilgauskas, Dalembert

The Richardson trade didn't go through but I have another offer and I think its a no brainer:

Caron+J-Rich+Murphy for Kobe+Terry+Gooden

I make this deal, right?

G- Kidd, Richardson, Parker, Sessions, Ginobili
F- Boozer, Butler, West, Artest, Murphy
C- Ilgauskas, Dalembert

That team looks filthy.
