2008-09 Trade & Waiver Thread (All Trades & Ideas Here)

Post#1 » by count55 » Mon Oct 27, 2008 12:34 pm

As the new season begins, this is the thread for undocumented trade and waiver wire speculation.

As always:

1. Please run the deal through the trade checker...(if it's a Free Agent/Waiver wire signing, please tell us how it will be handled under the cap)
2. Please provide your reasoning as to why any trade would be beneficial to each team, or how the FA would help the Pacers.

As always, any trade rumor that has been published in the media can have its own thread.

Here's a link to the previous thread.

Harrington or Curry?????

Post#2 » by Crossova21 » Tue Oct 28, 2008 10:12 pm

Two NBA sources claim that Al Harrington has asked the Warriors to trade him because he doesn't want to play for coach Don Nelson anymore.

One source with knowledge of the situation said that Harrington’s agent, Dan Fegan, is "actively working to get (Harrington) out of there" and that a few teams already have proposed tentative deals.
San Jose Mercury News

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News predicts that the Knicks will trade Eddy Curry this season.

Mike D'Antoni told the media that Curry will not be in the rotation when the season starts. Curry was "surprised and upset" when reporters informed him of the coach's decision.

New York Daily News

Alright you guys. Is Tinsley's name being brought up in these trade discussions? Both players could bring much needed help up front. I could see Nesto and/or Baston packaged. Question is: Do we want them?

Harrington = I wouldn't mind him AGAIN but I wouldn't actively pursue him to the point that we give too much

Curry = NO!

I dont think Ive read anything on Curry coming here so im not even going to comment on that.

As far as Al Harington the only way I would welcome him back is if it meant saying goodbye to Tinsley.

I'm surprised no one likes Harrington anymore. I think hes a perfect fit for our team. I agree to the point that I would only trade for him in a deal around Tinsley, but seems like some really don't like him anymore. Harrington would be an awesome backup PF/SF.

I'm not sold on Harrington in terms of being the savior of this franchise. I see quite plainly that he has a lot of flaws to his game and is no long-term solution to our PF hole, as he's not quite a PF, but not quite a SF either.

With all that being said, he's an ok player, and if it meant we could move Tinsley for him.....HOLY **** I'M ALL OVER THAT DEAL LIKE WHITE ON RICE!!!

As i said after the draft, i think it'd be real smart to get Harrington back here. Larry Bird did the right thing by getting him back here the 2nd time, except the problem was the role he played. Harrington isn't a center. If he plays the right role, he could be a very good player. He's liked in Indiana. He's definitely a player i'd like to see here.

I mean, i wouldn't over pay for him, i'd offer Tinsley and some kind of filler. Daniels?

There's only really one possibility of a Harrington return, and tbh i just don't see GS going anywhere near Tinsley, he'll just get in the way for them, and perhaps sew a bad seed amongst their youth. I'd be extremely wary of touching Tinsley unless i was a playoff/contending team looking to take a gamble on extra talent, or a team loaded with bad contracts themselves. GS is neither atm.

I don't think it's that people don't like Harrington. I think it's more so a point of how many times can you bring a player back and just end up trading him again anyway. We've traded the guy TWICE and I would be willing to bet that he would be serviceable enough to get playing time but not essential enough for us to keep and we would either trade him again or let him walk when his contract is up. His contract isn't all that alluring either. He makes $9.2 million this season, and I'm pretty sure he has one more season under contract after this season. The past couple of seasons Harrington has done pretty much nothing but chuck up 3's, and has done pretty much nothing that a PF should do. The guy has shot nearly 700 3 point shots IN THE LAST 2 SEASONS. We have enough 3 point shooters already. We don't need our PF hanging out shooting 3's too. We need him inside fighting for rebounds to take some of the pressure off of whoever we have playing at the 5.

Curry, no.

Harrington, probably yes. We'd have to include someone like Baston with Tinsley to make the salaries match, but I'm OK with that because Harrington only has two years on his contract while Tinsley has three. On the court Al would probably only muck up our frontcourt rotation, but so what, this trade is all about the Benjamins.

If Tinsley was moved with filler, then I would only want Harrington ( if I were forced to choose between him and Curry ).

But if Tinsley was not involved....I would not want either of them.

Agreed Cable, i'd only consider Harrington IF Tinsley were going to Golden State.

And i have no interest in Eddy Curry.

Seems like everyone is of the same opinion really. No one wants to see Curry's name anywhere near our roster and Harrington only if we trade Tinsley for him.

A third time would not be a charm for Big Al in Indiana.

Can't stand Curry nor would he fit our team whatsoever. I would not mind having Al back but I would not give much to do it. I'd be more interested in trying to get Brandan Wright thrown into the mix somehow...

Harrington or Curry Part 2

Post#17 » by Crossova21 » Thu Oct 30, 2008 10:08 pm

Okay I know i posted this before but now it seems like these two will be traded for each other. RealGm Tradechecker wasn't working so I went to ESPN and it worked.

Indiana
Incoming
Al Harrington
Outgoing
Jamaal Tinsley
Travis Deiner

Why: Bring in a PF that we NEED. Get rid of Tinsley. Diener won't see much playing time behind Ford and Jack

New York
Incoming
Jamaal Tinsley
Travis Diener
Outgoing
Eddy Curry

Why: New York is in the same spot we are with Tinsley. Tinsley isn't much of an upgrade but he is from New York and Stephon Marbury isn't playing.

Golden State
Incoming
Eddy Curry
Outgoing
Al Harrington

Why: Al Harrington wants to get traded.

This leaves us with no third option at PG (Diener), gets rid of a player who has become somewhat of a fan favorite (Diener), and brings in a player we don't need (Harrington). I would not be in favor of it

There are enough players who can be our thirth PG. They may not be as good as Diener, but is he really that important to our team? We have one of the better PGcombos in the nba today and unless Ford goes down, there aren't much minutes left over for Travis.

I do think that most pacer fans would be thrilled to substitute Tinsley (who might be as hated as Travis is loved) for Harrington, if they only have to give up Diener.
