It's a good move.

IMO, the Spurs have signed a 1st round talent player in Farmer

The backcourt of Tony, Manu, Farmer, Mason, Hill and Vaughn makes the Spurs super solid.

They have the Deepest backcourt in the league.
This is the best team in the Western Conference.

Hey guys, can someone tell me what the story is with Ian Mahinmi ? Is he injured ? Something serious ? Haven't seen him on the box scores for a while. Thx for the feedback.

Mahinmi has been out with a badly sprained ankle for the entire training camp. He must be a slow healer because he was supposed to at least get into action for a few of the later games.

This will set him back a great deal as he was poised to take a shot at the rotation during training camp. I hope he still gets his chance, but it looks like D-league is a distinct possibility once again.

Vaughn should get negative playing time

Vaughn needs to be traded, he's only here becuase he's a stable defensive orientated PG. Hill has shown that he is an NBA level defender and with his stats in college we can at least expect some offensive output from him, Meaning Hill > Vaughn.
With Tolliver bringing everything Bonner has plus defense and rebounding i'm hoping to see them offloaded at some point this season.

Hopefully Pop will give Ian his chance early in the season to see if he can crack the rotation like he did last year before sending him back to D-League, we really could use another pair of young legs in the lineup up front.

That being said I am looking forward to the start of the season, we are looking a solid unit and Manu seems to be fastracking his recovery, things are looking ok for our next Odd Numbered Year Campaign

I'd like to see Bonner dealt for Mikki Moore - while he isn't ideal because of his lack of mass and rebounding, but what he does bring is above-average mobility and athleticism for a big man, a tall body, solid mid-range shooting, smarts, high energy, and pretty nice finishing ability off the pick and roll. He's no slouch defensively.

I'd prefer to try and get some kind of SF that's athletic but who is not quite established yet, but Moore's basically expendable for the Kings because of their team situation, and would bring something different up front, and actually improve us in a couple areas. Probably more realistic, as well.

Just a thought

I agree that Mikki Moore would be a solid addition to the team. I'm not so sure that the Spurs would be willing to take on his MLE contract or the Kings would go for such a downgrade in Bonner. Still though it's an idea worth entertaining.

I'm an advocate of the Spurs acquiring a young big with atheletic legs, I can't forget the SPurs are gearing their finances towards next summer so some contracts they have this season will be ideal to rid afterwards and some players will not be back after this year.

Also when Manu comes back from injury where does that leave Farmer? A 27 year old who has pretty muched tapped his potential, sitting on the IR.

Tapped out his potential? Farmer has just entered his "prime" years.

What Farmer has shown in his opportunities looks pretty good.
His potential looks equivalent as other players in his 2004 draft year.

JR Smith, Iguodola, Kevin Martin, Josh Childress, Devin Harris.

Mason, Finley, Ime, and Bowen are jumpshooters.
Farmer is a 3 point maker and a slasher.

When Manu comes back it makes more sense to have Manu, Parker, and Farmer on the floor.
The defense must repsect the 3 point line, Duncan on the block, and 3 perimeter slashers on the floor.

That's nearly impossible to defend!

Ian Mahinmi is our young athletic big (even better is that he's not undersized)

Will have to wait some for him, though :/
