My brothers are Knicks fans, and they said the Knicks' home games will be blocked by MSG, so they won't be able to watch it. And obviously my Hawks games will be blocked up here in Connecticut. There's an offer on the DirectTV website that's $20 off the League Pass if you buy it before November 4th.
The League Pass is selling at four payments of $42.25 or one payment of $169. Do you guys think it's worth it?

Yes. It is absolutely worth it. Especially if you're like me and like to watch more than just your team.

It's a must have if you have both the money and time to watch the games.

LP is a must for a true NBA fan unless you have serious money issues. You get NBA TV and LP Broadband for free. Plus you can watch delayed broadcasts on NBA.com up to 2 days after the game.

Re: NBA League Pass - Is it worth it?
I've been buying it for 4 years now even though I'm a season ticket holder for the Hawks. I love being able to check out the West coast games. To me the national broadcasts are so limited on the teams they show often and the highlight shows are so slanted. To get a real feel for most teams you need to watch whole games (or at least large chunks). I think it is a worthwhile investment if you love pro hoops.
Does anyone know if League Pass Broadband is based on IP or ID? I was hoping to use it to keep up with the Hawks games when I am out of state at Christmas. If IP-based it can be spoofed via a proxy, but if ID-based I am afraid I will get blacked out even while not at home which would suck.

I'm not certain about the stand alone product, but once you give them your cable/satellite account number your local teams games will be blacked out on League Pass Broadband (regardless of it's live or in their archives). I live in Chicago and their games have never been available online even when I'm out of town. Hopefully they catch up to baseball's online service soon which let's you watch every game(whether it be local or national)game for the past 2 years. It also lasts throughout the entire off-season-which is the only time I have a strong desire to re-watch games.

Thanks HG25, that is what I feared, but sort of remembered.
Also by IP-based I meant IP ranges and upstream real IPs not exact IPs. Like determining if you are eligible to see or buy something based on Country you are in. It was a long shot.

I think they do sell a stand alone version of broadband for $80 or so.

You can buy the NBA LP Broadband as stand alone for $85 until Nov. 11th (instead of $99).
You can also try it now for two weeks (Oct. 28th to Nov. 11th) with a free preview.
If you look at this topic, someone said that the support answered that the blackout is based on the billing address zip code.
