Mike Tirico is the Lakers Tommy Heinsohn

Post#1 » by Tricky Ricky » Thu Oct 30, 2008 12:23 pm

I watched some of the Lakers Clippers game last and Tirico and I think Hubie Brown were doing the game. Tirico has a crush on the Lakers as he said many times the Lakers have by far the best bench in basketball which I think is crazy and he couldnt say enough good things about Kobe/Pau/even Luke Walton lol. About a quarter of the way through the first half it came to me that Tirico was such a Lakers homer that he reminded me of Tommy calling a Celtics game.

Some better knews is that both Avery Johnson and Jon Barry picked us to repeat and Avery also chose Pierce to be MVP.

Blasphemy. Tirico is the national version of Gary Tangway, not Tommy.

The difference being Tommy works for the CELTIC'S OWN NETWORK while Tirico is supposed to be an "impartial" national guy (sort of like Breen was last year, too, huh? )
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

There is only 1 Tommy Heinsohn. Only 1 Hall of Famer with so many rings who then won rings as a coach and then stuck around as color guy for so many seasons.... all with the same team. There may never be another commentator like him ever again.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Tirico used to be really good, but he has trended toward becoming very star/big market oriented. It really stood out during the Cleveland/Washington saeries last year when he spent the whole series kissing up to LebRon and criticizing Stevenson (well, he did deserve it, actually) I wouldn't be surprised if he was positioning himself to be a goto interviewer with the big name stars, especially since IMO he is starting to lose some of talent that made him a good broadcaster.

OMG don't even start with Breen. He almost ruined the whole playoff experience for me last year. I would seriously punch him in the face if I saw him walking the streets, and without any hesitation.

I mean how do u hire a guy who is the KNICKS broadcaster to be your play by play man?

Tirico was the same guy gushing over the Pistons when we were playing them in the 04 Finals. He's from Michigan so go figure.

And at least you acknowledge Tommy as a homer..................I couldn't stand that guy.

Question is were you able to admit Tommy was a homer when his announcing games?

Ummmm ya Pierce could punch Kobe and Tommy would say it was a foul on Kobe. If your a celtic fan you love Tommy if not you despise him, thats the way it should be.

The difference between Tommy and Tirico is that Tommy is an announce for the Celtics while Tirico is an announcer for ESPN not the Lakers! When Tommy was a national announcer he was not biased at all, Tommy Heinsohn is a class act I can not say the same for Mr. Tirico although I do like his commercial.

Agreed. Like I said before, EVERYONE knows Tommy is a Celtics...50+ years with a team as player, coach, and broadcaster, no **** he's a homer (just like all of us).

Tirico is SUPPOSED to work for the "impartial" national networks. Yes, national are always biased in favor of NY and LA teams in ANY sport, as well as the marquee teams of the moment (Colts, for example)...

But Breen in the playoffs was CONSISTENTLY anti-Celtic IN EVERY SERIES...it got to be so much I'd turn the volume off and listen to music while the game was on...what a jerk!
