Aaron Brooks (fantasy question)

Post#1 » by Boots » Fri Oct 31, 2008 2:21 pm

Coming from Toronto. What is the latest with Houston's pg depth charts . What kind of minutes is he expected to have this year. I'm in a deep pool - 12 team with 17 player roster. 17th guy I have is Tony Allen who I can't stand. I love Brooks' game but any chance he'll avg 25 mins this year. Cheers

He probably won't average 25 this year. Maybe about 15 or 20.

Why? We're too deep. We have Barry and Head also playing backup PG. By all indications, however, Adelman WANTS to play Brooks more than the other two at the point, but it depends on matchups.

If Rafer has to miss a game, Brooks will start in his place.

15-20 wow. With Houston's big 3, they don't need a ball hog or chucker like alston. Brooks is young but look what Boston did last year w Rondo. I think Houston can mimic that success. They would be better off with a pg not looking for 'his', let Brooks bring the ball up the court and pass it off to your big 3 scoring options. It sure worked for Boston. Am I missing something.

Yeah, you have the names "Brooks" and "Alston" reversed. Rafer is a pass first kind of player in HOU. I know you remember him from his days in Toronto, but he really is the only guy we have right now who will initiate and run the offense. He's no longer the playground, selfish guy that he was early in his career.

Brooks will come into the game looking to score, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a bench player.

No kidding. Alston's been 'rehabilitated?' I catch maybe half dozen Rocket games a year. Alston doesn't do it for me. I like Brooks potential. Are Houston fans not excited about this guy. Are 20 mins, 12 pts, 4.5 assits, 3 brds, 1.5 steals realistic

Iam not sure about Brooks being the future starter PG for the Rockets, i would like it, but size is a obvious problem if you want to start in a big team.

About fantasy questions, i would never take him, he will play sometimes, also when Francis comes back it's going to be sometimes Head (Barry PG), sometimes Brooks, and sometimes Francis. Alston, Tmac and Barry are the only guards who will play minutes in every game if not injured.

But his defense is questionable

IMO 9 pts , 3 assists and 1,2 boards is more realistic.
“He didn’t miss?” , “That’s fantastic. That’s tremendous. I wish I could have a day like that. I dream of the day I could go 12-for-12.”-Rafer Alston

9, 3, 1 sounds about right. He may explode for 18-25 on rare occasions, but his average should be around what you said.

Hell yeah, we're excited! It's been a while that we've had a backup PG with potential. But most of us are realistic. He's still a little ways off before he reaches his potential.

I'm expecting around 8 points, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 steals in 18mins of playing time.

Notwithstanding the luke warm reception Brooks received from this post - I took him. Since then h'e been putting up some decent numbers, much more (at least so far) then what most predicted in this post. It seemed that there wasn't much excitement from Rocket fans re this guy but that's changed quickly....As did Artest FG%.

No, we WERE / ARE excited. Most of us know what he's capable of [footnote 1]. Brooks has been playing this kind of ball in the summer league for two years now. Most fans just didn't expect him to contribute to real NBA games so quickly.

Footnotes:
1. There is a certain poster here who not too long ago proclaimed that Brooks was the worst player in the NBA. With the exception of that guy, everyone else on here knew what kind of player Brooks was.

--Thanks, Moofs, for modeling message board footnotes earlier in the week.
