From what I hear, that will be a difficult task.

Re: Aaron Rodgers contract extension
Nice to not have to worry about the QB position for at least the next 6 1/2 seasons.
Now, time to get Jennings locked up. I know many are saying that he some inkling to play in warm weather, etc, but my guess is he stays here.

Re: Aaron Rodgers contract extension
I'll chime in about Jennings since I know him fairly well. He doesn't want to play in Green Bay. Never has since the day he was drafted and he would LOVE to leave in free agency. It's kind of odd really. He grew up in a small town, went to a small college (Western Michigan) but has always wanted to live in a large metropolitan area. And he's not a club guy, he met his wife in 4th grade. He just doesn't want to live in or play in a small town. He has nothing against Green Bay itself or the organization.
Certainly money talks plus the Pack can put a tag on him and keep him after next season. He's already turned down a couple of extension offers and TT would rather get it done now so 2008 cap dollars can be used.
My gut feeling is they'll get something done at some point and he'll stay. But don't be surprised if he doesn't.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Aaron Rodgers contract extension
Exact terms not known yet but this was in the ESPN writeup:
I love it. Great to see him in the fold for a while.
The deal is in the range of Tony Romo's, who signed a six-year, $67.5 million contract last season with the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.
I love it. Great to see him in the fold for a while.

I think the Jordy Nelson draft pick had quite a bit to do with Jennings.
The offensive system is more important than the Players and it would certainly hurt to lose Jennings (he's locked through 2009), but I wouldn't break the bank for him and give the guy stupid money. If a deal can't be worked out, I'd franchise and trade him.

Re: Aaron Rodgers contract extension
Notes: Jennings to wait for new deal
By Tom Silverstein and Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Oct. 30, 2008
Green Bay - Focused on this season and not wanting to create a distraction for himself or the team, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings said he would prefer to wait until after the season to address his contract.
Jennings and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are two players the Packers have targeted for contract extensions, even though their deals aren't scheduled to expire until after the 2009 season.
Monday is the deadline for National Football League teams to apply any increase in a player's base salary to the 2008 salary cap, thereby allowing them to use up any available room they have now. The Packers have more than $20 million of salary cap space to burn and could use up a good chunk of it if they sign one of their younger players to a contract extension.
Jennings, who ranks second in the NFL in receiving yards and tied for 16th in receptions, is making a base salary of $445,000 this year. The four-year deal he signed as a second-round pick in 2006 included a $1.24 million signing bonus, and as one of the top producing receivers in the NFL he can strike now if he would like.
Yet it doesn't appear he will.
"I don't want to be a distraction," Jennings said. "I'm not trying to make a big deal out of anything that would take away from the team. I don't want to do any of that. If there is something going on, I don't even want to know about it."
It's possible Jennings' agent, Eugene Parker, has had discussions with the Packers but Jennings said his orders are to wait. He has told Parker that he doesn't even want to talk about a new deal because it would just distract from what he is trying to accomplish this season.
Once the season is over, he'll consider talking.
“My thought process is that even if there is something out there, I don’t want to do anything until after the season,” Jennings said. “I don’t want to mess with it. I’m going to wait. If it were to happen this season, it would happen at the end of the season. It definitely won’t happen right now.”

I think you're understating his abilities, he's an elite receiver that IMO would thrive in any system that had at least a decent QB. As for not breaking the bank on Jennings, i guess that depends on how exactly you define breaking the bank, but i'd sure offer him a lot of money. Now if Jennings just flat out wants to live and play elsewhere, that's his call and i won't hold it against him given i also hate living in Wisconsin.
On the Rodgers contract, not much to say except it's great news, but i expected it

I hope we can convince Jennings to sign long term, not just because of his enormous playing ability but also because of his burgeoning leadership role. Several times this year watching closely during games I've noticed him running to the endzone to congratulate defensive players in the end zone (not just his receiving corps buddies), firing up special teams players and motivating other Packers on the bench that aren't in his unit. This guy fires up everybody, and that's rare. He's team unity personified.

I agree with that. After Grant scored his first TD of the season, Jennings ran to the end zone to pick up the ball and then gave it to Grant.

Re: Aaron Rodgers contract extension
I am ready for Mr. Rodgers to lead us to the promised land. Hell the guy taught me how to change my shoes when I was a kid. Sweet deal IMO and not too expensive really when you factor in the 150 million dollar pay roll the NFL will likely be at by the end of the contract. Now if only Jennings signs, that would be super sweet. Unfortunately, I bet he is gone. Good thing TT seems pretty good at drafting what are supposed second flight WR's in the draft who pan out. I expect we will draft another WR in round 2 or 3 next off season. I just hope Jones comes back and shows he is special or else I might be worried then. Although I do think Nelson will be solid, I just don't think he will be special, so if Jennings does leave, we better find another special kind of guy.

I don't doubt Mickey Davis for 1 second, but I will bet Jennings will be a Packer a long time.
I wish the Packers could have locked up Collins to an extension so it would have kicked in on this years cap.

There still is time to sign Collins and count some of it against this years cap, Monday is the deadline. Then again, the report said that quite a bit of Rodgers bonus was put on this years cap. So until we find out exactly how much was, we won't know if there even was that much left to use on another player.
