OT: Game threads...

Post#1 » by john2jer » Mon Nov 3, 2008 5:00 pm

Can we remember that some people view this forum from work. I went cycling through the Dallas thread and let's just say I'm lucky my boss didn't walk by.

I love when we put up a picture making fun of someone, like a brewery for Brewer, or the cookie monster for Craig Smith, but maybe it's because I scrolled through it fast once I saw the pictures, but what's the point of half naked girls instead of their actual picture?

Don't get me wrong, there's a time and place (almost anytime and anywhere), but not at work. :-)

I do most of my reading/posting from work also. I'm a bit surprised the site hasn't been blocked yet (everything seems to be blocked here). I would just as soon not give them any reason to add the site to their list because then you all would miss out on my valuable insight (ha ha).

I use firefox and turn off the images and change the colors and fonts to imitate a program I use at work

so all anybody sees is a very dull looking image-less screen - it's bullet-proof!

sorry I didn't take that into account ;) next time I'll create a game thread (it won't happen in a long time I guess since I think I bring bad luck by doing so) I'll try to remember it

My bad. I did not look at the thread, I should have noticed it. I will stop it.

I love firefox and use it at home, and my old job, but this job has firefox blocked so I can't download it. Otherwise I'd use it and just block the bad images at work.

No harm done, like I said, I'm lucky no one walked by. It's bad enough some of the avatars people use, and advertisements that pop up on pretty much every website.

firefox is blocked? Interesting. I remember the old days when I could watch YouTube at work.

just out of curiosity, would that very picture I used be a reason to edit this thread? it's not like we had a bunch of "generous" pictures of Adriana in our game threads last year. and no, I wouldn't give her a free pass because she's a catholic. if a person walks by as it might happen like in john2jer's case I don't think anybody would make a distinction.

just curious.

Me either. Big Brother watches everything on our computers and monitors what programs get loaded.

I only thought you might have a double-standard here because Adriana Lima is a strict catholic (no sex until marriage etc) which would make some pictures that have been posted rather acceptable than the one I used. and I say it again, I'm just curious to see where the line is.

wow...I cannot believe u said that. couple things.

1...lima was due to relevance with jaric. I have no seen ur picture yet but I assume no relevance. because of that relevance people would expect and prepare and would not look at them if they would be in an nsfw situation.

2...the catholic thing had nuthin to do with it. are u being serious or trying to get a shot in?

3...I still have not seen ur pictures so I do not know how they are. I am using my phone and I do not load pictures.

make sense

Last year during the season I saw the game threads either at home, or at my old job and I only got online after normal business hours in the back office. Typically I was the only one there, so no worries. Now I work in this huge downtown office that's wide open other than our cube walls and people walk by.

They don't mind us getting online because sometimes it does get slow here, but they're pretty strict about what's blocked. No personal email, no youtube, no downloading any programs, and I'm sure no gorgeous girls in bikinis. Which is clear because there's no cute girls working here. :-)

No harm no foul, it was basically just a request for in the future.

I ran into the same problem with facebook. We can get on facebook no problem here, but my girlfriend's halloween costume is her profile picture, and let's just say I can no longer look at her profile at work, no matter how much I want to.

I think the issue then is you at work sir. I looked at the picture in question and there is nothing against realgm rules about it. So I guess you just need to watch what threads you look at. Gamethreads will likely have pictures. Often times these pictures are more mild then the ads on this site.

The girl in the picture has the last name "Gomes" I believe. I think when i made the thread last week I saw the same thing when I was searching for a Gomes pic.

Alright I know that I don't have much of a voice on this board (sometimes I feel like I'm a thread killer), but I feel like I need to voice my opinion here. I understand why people can get upset about certain things posted on the board and I'm not saying that they don't have the right to not be upset, but if every time something got posted that someone didn't like or was inconvenient for them we could end up posting the box score and that's about it.

As far as the religious comments go I think they might have been taken out of context but I'll stay away from that one.

And the picture... We've been posting pictures like that for years. I'm sorry if you're going to look at realgm while at work that is the risk you assume. You probably aren't supposed to be looking at it in the first place.

I'm not trying to upset anyone or stick up for anyone, it;s just what I think.

This is too funny. I wasn't even all that upset, I think I used a smiley face. I just asked for people to consider it. If you don't want to consider it and make all 10 starters pictures of Victoria Secret models, that's fine, I'll advoid those threads, no big deal.

Just a request, if it's denied, no big deal. never said I was upset. And surfing the net is fine at my work, we all do it, just don't think they're a fan of us pulling up pictures of girls in bikinis or whatever they were wearing, I scrolled past it quick when I realized what the picture was going to be.
