Gabe Now, I don't care whose min. cut

Post#1 » by War of the Lamb » Sun Nov 2, 2008 4:06 am

The Second unit is in complete disarray. GP was doing a great job in preseason. He showed great floor vision, lots of beautiful bounce passes ( an Auerbach favorite) which led to many Eddie House baskets and was very effective defensively. His turnovers were few as opposed to what we have going on now. We had a flow going. I know we have to take min. away from somebody. So be it. But I admit I haven't figured that part out yet. Any ideas.

It's a palpable difference once Rondo leaves. Pruitt for House would be nice for the backup PG since Pruitt has better dribbling/passing than House and plus has good shooting too. House's shots didn't fall which will obviously draw negative attention to him but I think at this point Pruitt should have the back-up PG spot. I'm still for House getting minutes at back-up SG, it's just that we should always have someone who can dribble the ball up court and make passes at all times.

Our second unit is fine, its just House exhausted all his shots in the preseason and needs to get his groove back. Once he does that we'll be fine.

eddie is not a pg and never will be. He gives good effort but his turnovers and inability to get the ball upcourt against pressure are huge liabilities. I'm in favor of playing gabe at the point with eddie as the 2 guard. tony can swing to small forward

Pruitt and POB are clearly on the outside of the rotation, looking in. But as much as they may need to play their way to more minutes (which I think Pruitt's already earned), it may also be a matter of waiting for BBD and House to play themselves out of a greater role. And that may be what we're in the process of seeing.

While I wouldn't mind Pruitt getting House's minutes he doesn't have to. Scal is averaging 7 minutes per game so far. Those should be Gabe's minutes to lose at this point. I still can't believe Scalabrine gets by on this "He's a solid vet" crap. No... He's not solid, not even close. Scal wouldn't make it on a D-league roster. Scal makes it a game of 4 on 5 and the negatives of having him on the floor will always out way the good. The worst part is that if we're trying to trade him he's only hurting his value by playing more.
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

I find it insulting when I see Scalabrine on the court. If he's in at SF then those minutes belong to Pruitt or Walker. If he's in as a PF then those minutes belong to O'Bryant.

I don't think Pruitt has shown enough consistency in the pre-season to warrant regular season minutes. But he with O'Bryant showed enough to be on the active 12. And perhaps earn some minutes during practice.

House was killer and is having a bad 3 game stretch, all shooters do. Ray Allen had a bad 17 game stretch in the playoffs last year. House is having some more trouble then usual passing the ball though... I think other teams are making it a point to expose him. Oh well when he's 3s drop we'll be much happier.

I was saying this even before the pre-season started. Eddie House is ONLY a good shooter - nothing else. Gabe is a better ball handler, has better basketball IQ, he is just smooth with the ball and makes right plays and knows how to bring the ball up court when facing pressure, and he is also a good shooter. Doc needs to forget the rule "vets" before "rooks" and make House a SG which he is. House is a helluva player, contributed a lot in the championship last year but he's a TO machine.

While individual performance is important the overall team play is the deciding factor. While I ordinarily can't stand to see Scal in a game the Pacers present a line up that is too long and too quick for Leon at a lot of spots at least Scal is tall and understands how to keep himself between his man and the hoop.

But more importantly Eddie looked good in the preseason playing with Pruitt that is the whole point. They took the one guy who can dribble with his head up and and take a shot here and there off the bounce out of the line up. At this point why not give Pruitt some of Ray's mins and let Ray play with Pierce and KG as much as possible till he gets it going.

My thinking is along this line as well. I think veterans need to work themselves out of the rotation, and inexperienced players need to work themselves into the rotation. More patience is given by coaches to the established player, so it takes a while for that person to work his way out.

It seems a bit odd to consider Davis as an established player, however when compared to POB he is.

I'm on board with Pruitt and POB taking bigger roles, it'll just take a while to work itself out (and we're only 3 games into the season).
