OT: Blockbuster Nuggets-Pistons trade

Post#1 » by skbucks1985 » Mon Nov 3, 2008 5:10 pm

The top story on ESPN First Take is a proposed trade between Denver and Detroit that would send Antonio McDyess and Chauncey Billups to Denver in return for Allen Iverson.

This is a big time trade, although I don't think it shifts the power in the West too much. I don't think anyone considered the Nuggets title contenders and I think this makes them better, I still think there probably the 7th or 8th best team in the West.

I think it could have a much bigger impact on Detroit as I did think they had a shot at winning the East. It'll be a team without a true PG now, but with there personnel I think that's okay.

Doesn't really matter to us. Denver is still not good enough for top 4 in the West anyway. I always thought Billups is overrated.

Nuggets just became much better, makes their lineup far more balanced now and allows JR to start. Pistons side is understandable too, brings them that go to scorer in the fourth quarter and risk that might be worth taking considering the Pistons likely weren't going to win the East with their current lineup anyway.

This is bad news for the West's bubble teams.

How will this trade affect the Rockets now?

IMO, I don't think it will do anything at all to LAL, us and NO and also Utah.

Still not enough for Detroit to get past Boston

But i'll still be rooting for them in the East

Trading for one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history indicates rebuilding?

The upshot to this trade is that the infusion of Iverson into the Pistons’ starting lineup will cost Detroit some wins, and likely the Central Division crown. Denver, on the other hand, is still at best, in the lower half of the Western Conference, likely meaning a first round playoff series on the road, and far less cap relief to rebuild over the offseason.

I like this trade for Detroit. They needed a go to scorer...they can't win the way they use to b/c they don't play the defense they use to. All the cap stuff yes...thats great. But I think Iverson is gonna do wonders for that team. They have offensive talent but not one go to guy..he'll fit right in.

As far as Denver...I like Billups...but unless you are trading for Nash, Paul, Deron...hell even Kidd...I don't see how this puts them over the top. They add a little defense...some better shooting and better leadership at the point. But they went from having 2 great scorer to 1 and a half. Maybe it will work...but I think the Pistons got the better end of this.

I didn't think Detroit would win the Central anyway, I think Cleveland's passed them. Be that as it may, I think it was a smart move on Detroit's part. I think this Pistons team had reached its ceiling and I don't know if the Iverson move makes them better. Who cares if they make the Eastern Conference Finals for the sixth year in a row if their going to lose once they get there again.

I'm not sure why the Nuggets did either trade - Iverson for Miller or Iverson for Billups. Since, imo Miller and Billups is a wash, they basically turned old Joe Smith and 2 2007 1st round picks into old Antonio McDyess. I guess they're back where they started with 2 years of heavy marketing in the bag at the cost of 2 draft picks... Not exactly mind blowing or horrible. It looks like it might have gotten them under the luxury tax at any rate.

Is the Denver front office admitting that it was a mistake to trade Camby?

McDyess gives them more size inside, and you know they need it when they are depending on Nene to man the front lines. You know, he's not exactly the guy who you'd call on to play 82 games for you.

I don't think Billups at this stage is better than Andre Miller.

And what's the deal with Detroit? Will they start Iverson at 1 or 2? What does that do to Stucky's and Rip's minutes? Oh, and they sure are putting a LOT of trust in Amir Johnson.

Hey, at least those McGrady to Detroit rumors are over, right?

Some said Denver is going to buyout McDyess and he eventually going back to Detroit
Some said Denver is going to keep McDyess
Some said McDyess is not going to Denver and will retired

I don't care as long as he is not going to Lakers or Boston

This is good for us because the Pistons will be better next year, Nuggets are the same team with a real PG instead of AI. McDyess is going back to Detroit so...

The good thing is the Pistons will have 30 plus million off the books next season.

Honestly for the first time in a long time I didn't think about how this trade effects us. Thats a real good feeling.

Actually it's difficult a trade done now affect the Rockets in any way, maybe if the Lakers trade Odom for peanuts or something like that might help us, but difficult to happen.
