Rondo FT and jumper watch

Rajon's FTs are so terrible that we should start counting them.
On the plus side, he's getting to the line almost at will.

game 1 - 6/10, terrible
game 2 - 6/11, terrible
game 3 - 0/3, scary

12/24 for the season, right at 50%

other terrible shooters so far

Tim Duncan 9/14
Chuck Hayes 0/1
Bew Wallace 0/2
LeBron James 28/39
Andrew Bogut 4/11

His jumpshot so far is nonexistent, did he make or take one so far in the season?

On the side note, i'm a big Rondo fan, probably my favorite Celtic since West is gone.

Rondo took one near the end of the Pacers game, which he missed. It was at a point in the game where we looked totally out of sorts, and it was way too little and way too late.

His FT shooting is driving me nuts. He takes to long of a stroke at the line. He has to shorten it up. Put the arm out stright in front of your face and snap the wrist that is it. Now do it a couple hundred times a day after practice. So he doesn't get anxious at the line and change his shot.

It was only from being at a pre-season game, but I had the observation that Rondos pre-game routine didn't include shooting a bunch of jump shots. Ray, Tony, Paul, were out there shooting tons of practice shots, Rondo pretty much none. Was this an exception, or does this seem to be Rondo's approach?

I don't mean to diminish the importance of FT's and jumpers for Rondo, but the primary thing I look for from him is high assists. It generally means the ball is in his hands for the offense, which I believe typically drives down the team overall turnovers. Rondo had given his season objectives, I don't think being top 10 (top 5 would be better) in assists and assist/turnover ratio were included (please correct me if I'm wrong) which is really what I want to see from him.

True, just his job would be so much easier if he could make teams pay for hanging off him, or fouling him.

He needs to use his left hand as a help hand just to have a little better control and balance. His FT shooting thus far has been extremely concerning.

It would also be nice if he looked at the rim for more than 1/10000000 of a sec before throwing up a brick.

Rondo's ft shooting has been up and down this season. Looking at his split stats you can see he was really good in Dec shooting .755 but since then it has reverted back to below .600 overthe last 2 months. Over the last 5 games although it is a small sample size he is shooting 70& from the line hopefully he can continue this trend. As for his shooting we can see it is vastly improved with the amount of mid range shots he has been making over the last month. Not only is his mid range shooting better but he is hitting the 3 ball at a good percentage 44% however it is not a large sample size but it is a good direction overall. If he continues to develope throughout the rest of the season he'll be less of a liability come playoff time.

It was nice to see him take some jumpers against the Nets the other night. He needs to keep doing that to keep his defender more honest. Then all we need to do is find a way for Perk's defender to play more honest to open up the offense more and get easier looks.

Rondo has actually been quite efficient with his jumper for the last month. A big part of that is that he has actually started to LOOK for his jumper. I think that what most people have missed out on is that Rajon was rarely doing that earlier in the season, and so the few attempts he did have were to beat the shot clock and were usually forced. His two point jump shot percentage was actually around 20% until about a month ago. That was horrific, but considering the selection kind of understandable.

He's actually got it up to around 33% now. Considering that he's only been searching them out for a little while, that is a big bump. He's probably been shooting them around 45% over the last month. A good example of him searching out his jumper was in the Nets game. He comes up in transition, goes behind a BBD pick and drained one. No hestitancy and no rim. He's been doing a lot more of that lately, where he just lets it fly. Even on his off nights, he is still much more willing to let the jumper go.

What I really want to see more of from him is three point shooting. He is 8 for 9 on left wing threes this season. He can also kncok down corner threes and should take them. That 18 foot baseline jumper he takes is not a good use of a possession, IMO, as he could easily knock down 35 to 40 of the baseline threes, if he sought them out, and would be getting three points insteadof two and would also be helping to space the floor out better. Unfortunately I think that Doc actively discourages him from shooting these. Why? I think Doc is kind of a nut, to be honest.

2-5 on jumpers tonight shot them mostly from about 15 ft many a step ot 2 in from that.
2-6 if you count that 3 pt attempt although i think that was recoreded as a 24 sec violation

Careful. I got completely ripped about a month ago for saying Rondo should shoot more 3's. I still believe that if he had 150-180 attempts in the regular season, it would help this team keep the floor spread. If he took the couple really good looks that he gets each game, there is no doubt in my mind that he would shoot 32-34 percent from behind the arch. While this isn't amazing, it is just as good as many players who chuck up 400+ 3's each year. The result is that the defense has to play him more honestly.

I think he should absolutely take more of the wide open jumpers and threes that defenses beg him to take. That being said we don't want him taking 150+ a year more like a 110-135 maximum just to get teams to play him a little more honestly.

He also should be taking them earlier in the shotclock instead of against the clock unless its a catch and shoot attempt from the corner. In all truth I believe having Marbury here can be a great thing for him, once Marbury gets the rust off I expect him to play much more comfortably and show Rondo what shots are actually available to him in our offense.

I project Rondo to be a 14/10/6/2 guy during his prime.
