Busy Offseason for the Hawks

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Tue Nov 4, 2008 7:37 am

i'm not serious about this, but what if the Hawks did not resign Bibby, Zaza, and Marvin..... and signed Iverson and Kidd (maybe in the 12M range)

C: Horford
PF: Smith
SF: Joe
SG: Iverson
PG: Kidd

that would be a fun and interesting team.

Jason Kidd is toast.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I concur. Can't base it all off of name and reputation. It has to be what they have left in the tank. Overpaying players who are "done" or paying them for too many years is a classic way to stay mediocre.

We went through the pains of a harsh rebuilding. We should be able to enjoy a window of contention for at least 6 years with wise moves. That doesn't mean avoiding older players as they can contribute in roles, but it does mean not throwing 12 Million that way with Joe Johnson and Al Horford coming due shortly thereafter.

If they do renounce the rights to Bibby, Zaza and Marvin, and Childress they could be major players in the free agent market.

But Kidd and Iverson......ugh.

I want Bibby, Kidd, Billups, and JJ Redick on the same team's backcourt. That way they can run a "Better Basketball" clinic during the game.

Kidd would be painful to watch on this team. He has been putting up empty stats for a while now. Color me unimpressed with 10/10/10 shooting 30% in a loss.

I'd probably stay away from Iverson, too. A couple of offseasons ago I was interested. An Iverson/Joe backcourt could be nasty, though. Let's see how he plays with Rip who is the best guard he has ever played with unless I'm forgetting an obvious one.

You guys need a big man in front. Josh Smith is good, but still need a 7 footer to front he court.

Iverson is on his last true shot to get a ring. If he can't mesh with the guys in Detroit, he can mesh anywhere.
The Carmelo combo didnt' work, but Detroit should see some success. Does that translate into beating Cleveland?
