OT: President-elect Barack Obama

Post#1 » by JStockLivesOn » Wed Nov 5, 2008 5:39 am

I'm going to make an admission -- an "oh, come on, JStock, man the hell up!" type admission.

I wept tonight. Not because I so strongly supported Barack Obama, the candidate and the man. I wept tonight because we have come so far. It was only four decades ago that Medgar Evars and Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were murdered for what they stood for. It was only four decades ago that Congressman John Lewis fractured his skull for freedom's cause. Out of that darkness, though, has emerged a better and stronger and more just America. We've got a long way to go, but we've breached a great distance and cast aside so much evil and bigotry.

I am proud beyond description tonight to be an American, and to be a human being. The American promise, and the promise of mankind, is alive and real and within our grasp, if we only just hold on to it.

John McCain is a great man, and an American hero. And that was on display tonight in his gracious concession speech, especially when he -- with genuine emotion -- chastised those in his crowd who were booing President-elect Obama.

This is an awesome moment in the history of America, and in the history of the world. Just wanted to say that.

I choked up too especially when the President-elect talked about the 106 year old black woman who got to vote today. I did at the polling station too, as I have been informally and formally campaigning for Obama since before Obama was himself.

Happiness, Relief, Excitement, Pride . . . I am feeling all these things. Times like these you have to feel good to be living in this country.

It was a nice election. No riots. No recounts. No conspiracy theorists. Also a nice story.

Although, Barack Obama isn't as great of a president, and we are sold he will be, we must recognize the great value of his election, the fact that we have come so far, and we have a lot more to do.

I wouldn't get so lost in his rhetoric, I still disagree that he was a good guy to be president (better than McCain though IMO). But we must respect the fact that we have broken a ceiling.

I'm very proud. In 2 months I will go back to being proud to be an American (well resedentially). :-)

I was really going to jump ship to Europe if McCain won. Not that England, Spain, or any other place I would of considered would of been a bad place, but I really never strongly considered moving there until just a few months ago.

Change WILL come. :-)

Great post Jstock. It was definitely a night to remember. :usa:

I was genuinely moved by McCain's concession speech and totally blown away by Obama's acceptance speech. I hope he can live up to the lofty expectations he's created in my head.

I blame Draper. Draper is a **** whole and needs to be annexed by Utah County.

I am very very proud to be an American. I'm proud of this election, I am proud to see the amazing diversity we saw on the ticket this year and I am proud to see the US do something new.

I am also very proud of the voter turn out, what a great way to unite by voicing your opinion. This is a very good day in American History regardless of who you voted for. :usa:

I followed closely Obama's campaign here and I'm really happy he became America's new president.

He'll be one of the greatest not like our leader here in my country. Damn PGMA sucks! :banghead:

Congrats to all you guys. I honestly can't believe George W. Bush was elected and then reelected. Fear can make people do crazy things. I believe Obama can be a great president, and even if he doesn't amount to what everyone is expecting of him, I don't believe he can be any worse than Bush.

Yes, what a great moment for Americans and all the world.

I was rooting for Obama from day one. I couldnt believe you could put another Republican there after 8 terrible years. And what was more impressive is that Obama won by a thin margin (not that thin, but still) I was hoping for like 80% to 20%, seriously.

Bush was a disgrace for the whole world. I am glad his time has come to an end.

Good luck for all of you my fellow American Jazz fans, well, to all Americans as well.

Regards,
