Let's kill the myth that Beasley is horrible defensively
Watch the games people, his length and quickness allows him to play PFs well..he has trouble on the perimeter against SFs,,but hes fine overral defensively, better than people think.
Lets talk about it, just curious what people think.

It's no myth that he has a ways to go if you watch is defensive IQ and his lack of knowing when and where to rotate. Now I do however think the talk that he sucks on D is a little overdone.

I think he needs to play a season before being judged defensivly in the NBA. Having seen him college he wasnt that great.
Cheers.

I didn't see anything special defensively from him tonight..who was he guarding? the only guy worth guarding tonight was Duncan, and he was being fronted by Haslem and doubled when he got the ball..

His defense was never as bad in college as it was made out to be. I found it amusing how everyone was hyping Rose as the next Gary Payton when he wasn't a good defender in college and blasting Beasley.

Sweet, he shut down San Antonio, whose current 2nd best player in Roger Mason (career averages of 5.7 points on 41% shooting).

being a defensive liability is overrated IMO..if you have good defensive players and a good system around you, you can mask average defenders..we did it for years..

Hey in defense of Mason he got a lot better in 07-08 season, he looks like he has continued to improve. Roger Mason is solid defesively, great shooter, decent driver, and can pass the rock, he a very good 6th man, borderline starter ala Derek Fisher.

I think it was just to point out how bad we are in talent this year..Roger is actually a very good player and is definitely a solid 6th man type..

Uh, he was destroyed by Gerald Wallace a few games ago, for like 34-9-5, and Wallace has sucked all season thus far.

Re: Let's kill the myth that Beasley is horrible defensively
I haven't watched him much in the NBA, but he was DEFINITELY a weak defender in college. In college I would often see him wandering around aimlessly, getting stuck in no-mans land, and just generally playing poor team defense. Then again, he had to save most of his energy for offense in college, and was often playing in a zone, in a C-like role (roaming around, trying to block shots, which is not a strength of his).

Re: Let's kill the myth that Beasley is horrible defensively
I remember when the Raptors had Roger Mason and no one knew who he was, but I liked him. We could kinda use him now.
Beasley looked good tonight, but I didn't see much out of the Spurs' forwards as mentioned. What I do think is that the Heat have to move a forward for a centre. The commentators even said that you can get away with a PF at C, but none of those three are PF/C tweeners. I think once the Heat's roster is a little more set, we'll see Beasley become more integrated into the lineup.
