Pure maori thing.
But us white folk seem to do it whenever we're overseas...I can do it ok cos I know the words and actions having been raised a huge rugby fan, and I CRINGE when I see bad versions of it/people who don't know how to do it.
There's two versions, the older is Ka Mate and the new one I can't remember the name of, but everyone in NZ I think likes it more...has this cool throat slit gesture in it...
Don't get me started on the anthem and how the maori version (a straight interpretation of the European version) is sung before the English version...I remember the test match where the bitch singing the anthems did it without telling anyone and it stuck from there....I blame her
Not that I'm bitter. There's a story behind this, essentially I missed out on a HUGE scholarship for English for Uni, but lost to someone who was 1/16th maori - and I have none in me...so got nothing
