Re: Can Devin Harris Please Stand Up...
this dude is nowhere to be found...I dont see anything remotely close to what I expected from DH...slow start this season...maybe, but I just feel he has not been productive enough nor the floor leader the Nets need for us to be successful...
So far...
Verdict: Underachieving

Re: Can Devin Harris Please Stand Up...
I would agree. I know it's WAY early to draw an accurate conclusion but I haven't been happy with his management of the offense at all. But I don't blame that all on him. From the games I've watched, honestly, Vince and Jarvis Hayes are the only ones that look like they have a solid grasp of our offense. Yi and Boone have impressed me in the system too. Everyone else is hit or miss every night. I don't think we're gonna see if DH is gonna pay dividends running the floor till everyone understands their roles on offense.
If DH looks like this at the all star break, I'm gonna be pretty damn concerned though. This guy needs to bring it if we want a shot at a max contract player in 2010.

Re: Can Devin Harris Please Stand Up...
"and Devin I still don't trust his decision making when he roadrunners to the rim...this offense you will have to make quick decisions as to where the help is coming from and who is open."
The above was my quote during the off-season in the dribble drive offense thread.
On paper the new offense seems to cater to Devin more than anyone else on the roster but I think at this point in time Devin is more comfortable with your basic pick & roll offense, attacking the mismatches there and either scoring or finding set players off of pick & roll scenarios.
I remember last year seeing a youtube clip of Devin w/ Dallas scoring on a full-court dash after the opposing team's made bucket in about 3 seconds or so & I do hear Frank screaming for this team to push the ball but I don't see Devin's breakout speed too often in full court transition...he's gotta at least try & do so and take it back if defenses can contain him but the Nets need to score some fastbreak/easy buckets and he's the main guy that can do or facilitate this. It's just too difficult to always rely almost solely on 1/2 court offense to be efficient enough to win games esp. considering the holes in the Nets defense and defensive schemes so far.
3 plays I'd like to see from Devin on offense:
- simple top of the key pick & roll - put pressure on defense to control Devin's ability to turn off that screen and get into the paint (obv. defenses will play under the screen or sag to get Devin to settle for jumpers but I think he's fast enough to still cause havoc in the paint even if defenses chase him behind screens)
- push the ball on made or missed buckets by opposing team - let's see his elite level speed at work put pressure on opposing defenses
- I like the play w/ VC on the left block, with Devin throwing in the entry pass from the left perimeter. First VC on the blocks is always a positive thing, second Devin has the option to cut baseline for the handoff & his speed again will cause defenses to react or get scored on - so likely help D comes from the 5 man in the paint, that opens up our big for possible paint score or if our big is rotated to (likely) than Devin should have an easy pass to the right corner 3 & from there they shoot open shot or if top defender collapses then rotate to the top of the key + for an open look. Lately defenses have sent hard double from the top of the key when VC touches the ball in the left block so Devin's movement should get our offense open looks.
I also want to see more of that pressure D from Devin. The Nets have thrown more full court pressure out there to shave the clock so that it makes it even harder (so is the theory...) for opposing teams to play inside/out & rotate the ball.
A lot of new players & new system for Devin so he gets leeway this early in the season - I really do feel he will pick it up.
PG position for playmaking is rather tepid now - Frank makes VC run more plays lately it seems and when Devin is out Dooling doesn't distribute / run the offense well. From what I've read Devin is putting the time in to improve and he knows he's struggled early - have to remember he's come from an overly-controlled offensive system in Dallas that was basically also a 1/2 court team and now he has more say on how to run the offense and he will have his bumps & bruises but I hope Frank doesn't take away his reigns too much (ie. make VC handle the ball more). Devin is part of the youth movement too & he needs the ball to grow as a PG.

Left hand. His FG% would be around 50 if he could/would use it to finish.

Hey Jac can you do us all a favor and make a please stand up thread for Brook Lopez? I think Harris heard you loud and clear tonight.

Re: Can Devin Harris Please Stand Up...
exactly what I was saying about Devin - great game. He even scored his first basket off that hand off play I was 'talking' about except opposite post and not through VC. His speed could not be stopped.
Let's hope ankle is ok & no swelling over night. This team w/o both Devin & VC cannot function on offense.
Great great game.

Re: Can Devin Harris Please Stand Up...

a lot of good posts in this thread...we know this guy has the potential to be a scorer as well a floor leader (and its not all about assists)...
we finally got to see that w/ a 38pt breakout performance...his ability to drive into the paint and attack the basket is second to no one...dont get me wrong, thats the potential he has in that aspect of the game...if he does it consistently, he'll become a player to fear...and thats what we can only hope for...also great to see his concentration @ the line, at an all time high...

Re: Can Devin Harris Please Stand Up...
I always look at Devin's ceiling as a better Tony Parker, which to me is great.
The same type of PG, but with slightly better quicks(imagine that, Parker is fast as hell), much, much better defense, the potential to be able to shoot the 3 ball well and he is taller.

If he can stay aggressive, he can have his way on most night. The only thing about that is, he needs to make people respect his shot which has not been all that respectable so far.
His passing could use some work but i still don't know if it's an IQ issue or a grasp of the offense and teammates issue.
