Dirk - the last piece the Cavs need?

Post#1 » by GermanFan120 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 3:53 pm

Hi everyone, i am a huge Dirk fan. As everyone knows the Mavs is no longer the same team two years ago, i am giving up on my team and i also feel very sorry for the big German. i always wish that Dirk teaming with Lebron some day. What if the Mavs decide to rebuild the team, will you guys do this trade:

Dirk for Ben + Pavlovic + filler + 1st round draft?

I think this trade will help you guys to be a real championship contender and the mission left is to win NOW, and you guys will not lose Lebron in 2010 if Dirk gets traded to the Cavs

Mavs can start rebuilding immediately and use Kidd, and Ben's expiring contract to chase Wade or Bosh in 2010
Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.

JAWOHL!!(I'm half bavarian :) )

Pairing LeBron with a former MVP wouldn't be fair for the rest of the league.

We'd do that in a HEARTBEAT, but Dallas sure wouldn't.

It'd take AV + West + Wally + a 1st to begin the discussion, most likely.

I think you're right, and if DAL was trading Dirk, they most likely would want a clean sweep and a chance to rebuild financially by shedding longterm deals. Maybe something like:

Dirk + Terry + Dampier for Szczerbiak + Snow + Varejao + West + 1st

This would cost CLE a truckload of money, but they would be feared by every team in the league.

Shrink, you have proposed the Dallas tilt which would would leave the CAVs hand cuffed Salary cap wise in the future which I doubt would be acceptable to the CAVs living the next three years deep in luxury tax land -- Nice try though. IMO, the CAVs would entertain a deal for Dirk without the salary cap baggage of additional older players.

Without salary cap baggage, I don't believe the Cavs can offer enough value to make a competitive Dirk offer. Since you've been successful for several years, you have no lottery youth, and your pick will be late. I think most any team who wanted Dirk would outbid you if you were also unwilling to eat tons of salary.

I don't see Cuban taking expirings just to clear cap... He needs to sale his product nightly...

You're gonna probably have to throw some young talent his way and picks.. Or maybe LeBron.. In which case, that would leave us with a hole at the SF spot... :-?

I think Dirk may come to Cleveland as a Free Agent in 2 years, but not now. Dallas wouldn't even want expirings because their first round pick in 2010 goes to New Jersey.

We'd be in tax hell but I'd consider a deal like that (not saying Dallas would)

I would be hesitant to give up West but Dirk would play well off LBJ. His defense is not great but he could be capable in a Mike Brown system.

I don't see how you would defend a team that had Lebron/Mo/Dirk/Z. All great shooters with the best slasher in the game.

Big Ben would not be in the trade.

I don't think Cavs have the pieces to get Dirk.

If salary cap baggage is the price for Dirk -- that would be a very bad fit for the CAVs and short sighted too. Now doesn't seem to be the time for Dirk in Cleveland given that it is a remote possibility in the first place.

I don't know of any team right now that has the pieces to meet Dallas fans expectations and their is only one Mark Cuban that is willing to over pay for former All-Stars like Jason Kidd. Dirk's supporting cast isn't as good as it used to be and his production and team's success reflect that.
