I actually don't think we are Godly. People need to start reading posts around here. I actually don't think we are unbeatable at all. Im just responding to people who think we are beatable based on their criteria of what they think will beat us.

In the end, what you may find is that the lakers BEAT themselves by not doing what they have been doing thus far this season.

Were not, this thread was started by another poster which isnt a Laker fan.
So now every non Laker fan is running with it that we think we are Godly and we are unbeatable.
The worst thing any Laker fan (IMO) can do is walk into their baiting game.
Let them think what they want and say what they want, its all good if we are good then we allow our game to speak for itself, come midseason if we are still undeafeated then it is what it is, but until the end of the season, we are the team that was beat by the Champs.
So let them run with this thread and talk all the want.
All I know is some Laker fans not regular Laker posters always have to come on here and get all anal and make us look bad, Im not saying your one of them, but this thread was dead and obviosuly a Laker fan HAD TO COME ON HERE AND BUMP IT AGAIN.
I hope you can see my point.............. COOl

I think this should be closed. A self serving topic like this should not have gone on for 17 pages.

I think the Celtics are "Godly".

Most of the people mentioning Boston aren't even Celtics fans, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most Lakers fans don't even understand what he's talking about.

The Lakers IMO are on another level right now with Bynum. But you don't need a "Godly" performance to win against the Lakers. The opponents need to attack the Lakers in PnR scenarios (iirc that was the Lakers weakness last year) and basically have a "A" game as well.

Even though, the final scores weren't close, the Kings were virtually close with the Lakers in all of their 4 games together..in several quarters last year but we decided not to play defense for several possessions and we made Kobe angry thus we ended up losing...But we won a game against the Lakers in Staples though due to PnR offense and etc...

PNR doesn't work as well with two 7 footers in the game. One will always be back guarding the rim.

A team like the Jazz have two bigs that can space the floor fairly well, one up to 17 feet and the other out to 24 ft. Also, if one of the Lakers big men gets in foul trouble they are very thin up front off the bench, I dont think Powell, Mihm or Mbenga are quality off the bench and putting Odom at PF will seriously hurt the interior defense.

Why arent Powell and Mihm quality of the bench? Compared to who else on what team ? They are very good off the bench. Mihm still has game, he just doesnt have the minutes due to our depth in the front court.
Plus, Odom has been playing PF for us since he arrived in LA.

They are not very good, saying average or decent would have been a stretch, very good is like a prayer. Mihm couldnt guard his own shadow 3 years ago, now with less mobility he's supposed to be quality? Powell is a poor man's Turiaf minus the energy. I dont understand how you can say they are very good, and it's not due to depth that they dont see minutes, they dont see minutes because they are not very good. You cant claim it's depth when these guys cant even get minutes in blowouts.

Odom playing PF, that worked out well in the finals didnt it?

Dude, Odom is LA's sixth, maybe seventh, man. You'd have to have some good fortune to get both Gasol and Bynum in foul trouble, so that Odom and Mihm are in there.

Odom would start for at least half of the NBA teams probably. LA is stacked.

This argument doesnt make sense.... You use Boozer and Okur because they can stretch the floor but then say our interior defense would be affected? Okur is not really an interior threat.. We would just do what we did last year and put Odom on Okur and Gasol on Boozer (look at Boozer's stats for the series)

If we were to play Boston we would put Gasol on KG (Gasol actually did a great job limiting KGs touches and making him a jumpshooter, he shot 42% in the Finals) and Bynum on Perkins...

Lakers have the personnel to mix it up... Its not like we are stuck with Odom/Gasol like last year

No, it's not that they aren't good or serviceable big men off the bench, but they don't fit in with the line-ups that we want to play. Lamar is going to be the primary backup Power Forward of the bench, that's where he has always performed best at and where we can best utilize him. This decreases Powell's minutes, because the PF spot is mostly filled in between Pau and LO.

Likewise, with the Center, both Pau and Bynum play that spot, not because Mihm isn't capable of playing that spot, but because of the affect it has on teams. We wear teams down by alternating the two at Center, we have Pau play Center with the second unit, a quicker line-up, and then we put Drew in when we go back to our starting five. What's the point of playing Mihm, when you have two guys that are going to wear teams down for 48 minutes. We have a luxury to have guys like Mihm and Powell, who are solid rotation players any where else. Most teams don't have these quality of players as their third string Power Forwards and Centers.

Lamar playing the PF position is fine; he'll be off the bench and won't have to play against the likes of KG for the majority of the game. We match-up much better this year against a team like the Celtics this year.

If Mihm or Powell are called upon, they'll be fine for some spot minutes.

How are you calling LA "thin" off the bench? Mihm and Mbenga are two legit 7-footers, and Mbenga is a physical specimen (and Mihm isn't soft). LA has 4 legit 7+ footers (Mihm, Mbenga, Gasol, Bynum) and another two at 6'10"-6'11". They have extreme size at every position except PG and are easily the tallest (and more importantly, the longest) team in the league. How many other teams even have two legit 7-footers on their team, much less four?

We are talking about back ups right ?I said compared to what team? The Lakers are 9-10 deep before they get to those guys and those guys are comparable to any 10-11 big men off the bench.

Powell is a poor man's Turiaf minus the energy.

Only a better shooter and rebounder too. But you are right, less energy

I dont understand how you can say they are very good,

I said they are very good off the bench and given their slot in the rotation. They are solid back ups to have ' if needed '

and it's not due to depth that they dont see minutes, they dont see minutes because they are not very good. You cant claim it's depth when these guys cant even get minutes in blowouts.

No, they dont get minutes of our depth. Bynum, Gasol play alot of minutes. Phil has them playing alot of minutes ( even in blow-outs) because its the SIXTH game of the season. Its called getting the team playing together.

Odom playing PF, that worked out well in the finals didnt it?

The Lakers got to the finals, that worked well for the Jazz, didnt?

Speaking of Jazz ( and I assume you are a jazz fan, my apologies if you are not) are you even trying to compare the Lakers front court depth with the Jazz?

Even with trying to build the teams chemistry no on on the Lakers are playing a lot of minutes. Gasol leads with 34 minutes a game followed by Kobe at 33 minutes. The Lakers have 8 players that play 20+ minutes a game, which only 2 or 3 other teams can match. The depth the Lakers have is just overwhelming.

The fear of the Lakers is that you don't have much drop off at all from the starters to the bench. But no one on the team is getting burned out. Players are getting shuttled in and out almost like Team USA; this allows players to go all out and not have to conserve energy.

The Lakers are just wearing teams down in the 2nd and 4th quarters.......
I'm so tired of the typical......

I like Powell a lot (which is hard for me to say since I loved Turiaf...we all did).

Mihm and Mbenga are just bodies to throw in there in the offchance that the Bynum-Gasol-Odom rotation needs rest or is forced to rest.
