A GAME FOR THE AGES FOR ONE OF THE BEST CELTICS OF ALL TIME

Post#1 » by GreenPiece » Tue Nov 11, 2008 4:30 am

In the first 2 1/2 quarters, Paul Pierce played as if in a coma, scored 9 points and shot poorly.
In the last 1 1/2 quarters, he scored 27 frigging points; in the last quarter, he scored 22 frigging points (2 points short of the all time Celtic record). He finished the game with 36 points on 10-22 shooting, 4-7 from 3, and 9-11 from the foul line. He also played frenetic defense, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 4 dimes.

He took a tired, sluggish team and BROUGHT THEM HOME ON HIS BACK over a good team which had a 20 point lead at one point.

Vintage PAUL PIERCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WILL EASILY PASS MCHALE AND PARRISH THIS YEAR, AND BECOME THE THIRD LEADING SCORER IN CELTIC HISTORY AS HE LEADS THIS TEAM TO NUMBER 18. HE WILL BE THE FINALS MVP AGAIN AS WELL OUTPLAYING KOBE THE CRIMINAL. PAUL PIERCE PROVES ONCE AGAIN THAT HE IS THE MOTHERFRIGGING TRUTH AND A SURE HOFer.

GO "TRUTH"! GO CELTIC GREEN FOR ETERNITY!

NOTE: That from an anonymous source of mine.

I love Paul Pierce so much, greatest Celtic of my lifetime (was a little too young to remember much of the Bird era) and my favorite. The stabbing, almost being traded, Finals MVP...just a phenomenal player continuing a legendary career.

I don't understand why Pierce doesn't either shoot or make a play for someone else - all the time. There is no denying any more that this team plays better if he's either shooting or making a play. If he's aggressive we can't be beat. When he's not and plays within the team offensively we're not as good in my opinion.

Ditto Birdman and Greenpiece.

I am a long-time lurker who regularly reads the posted comments of the diverse international group of Celtic RealGM posters, and have never posted before.

Robert Smith added alot to this board, but was banned because he got carried away at times and was eventually banned.

I believe that he adds intellect, b-ball insight and, most of all, passion to this board.

SamIam, Sully, Gonzo, Gant, Guyclinch, Elrod and others: I recommend that you petition the Mods and Sunshine and Howard Moss to bring RS back. The board has lost some of its verve and at times has become somewhat moribund since we won #17. I vote to bring him back.
SamIam 2010: Truth's ability to play so incredibly efficiently is so UNDERAPPRECIATED. Bballcool 2012: Amazing how great Pierce has been for so long. Continues to defy age! KG 2013: P is original Celtic. Wherever he goes, we go. This is The Truth's house.

What a game...Pierce was a one-man Raptor-killing machine!

Hey guys, that was one of the best early season games I've seen in ages. I thought the Raps had you, but we showed that we still have some ways to go before being at the top of the heap in the East. That was fun to watch.

I don't agree Raptor fan. That game just showed how much of an immense hole the Raptors have in their roster: namely, they have no one who can defend at the 2-3 spots. The Raptors need to somehow acquire a wing stopper without losing Calderon, or Bosh, and I guess O'Neal. You have a nice little club but when your looking at Pierce and Lebron in the playoffs you guys simply don't stand a chance in fourth quarters.

A good defender could work for them, but I think the raptors guy has a point. The last few minutes of the first half were killers for them, 3 consecutive TO b/c of stupid plays (not Cs defense). Their coach was pulling his hair.

^^Agreed. Still, it was an entertaining game...would have been better if the C's didn't play like total garbage in the first half...at least it would have been closer then!

Fantastic game last night. Wasn't home to watch the first half, but it was one of those games that in the 4th quarter, you're saying "I wish I was at this game". You just knew it was one of those games that had the potential to be electrifying. And the Captain came through in the clutch, continuing to give more credibility to his claims of being the best player in the NBA.

I just love watching this team (and last years, obviously) because of the passion they bring every night and the defensive intensity. It's great to be able to point to the C's to those haters who say no one plays D in the NBA anymore.

This is a tough stretch for the team and it's great to see them not giving away games, which they could've done tonight. That's a sign of a great, mentally tough team.

I agree this was one of the all time great celtic performances. I've followed the Celts since the Russell era and Pierce now deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Russell and Bird- the 2 greatest Celtics of all time. Between Bird and Pierce I still think Larry has the edge because he brought it every night but Pierce at his best is every bit the player Larry was.Just a fantastic win. Toronto is a tough team; they have length and unbelievable outside shooting. they will be very tough in the playoffs if O'Neil plays the way he did last night. We could have used Posey's length on defense last night as Kapono and Parker were able to elevate over TA and RA pretty easily. I don't read too much into this victory other than we played like crap for 2 1/2 quarters and were able to pull it out but only because of Pierce's heroics. 9 times out of 10 we lose this game playing the way we did

So great to hear from Dr. Smith again! Drew the ire from many posters on this board for arguing tirelessly that Paul Pierce is an all time great Celtic, that he shouldn't get traded, and that he was the key to restoring this legendary franchise. And even when history proves him to be 100% correct and discredits those that got him so riled up in the first place, he is not allowed to post here. How can Celtics fans stand for this? How un-American is that?

Let Robert Smith come back!
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Hence why there are rumors that Toronto is seeking a perimeter defender. Gerald Wallace and Harrington's names were mentioned.

We have a couple decent defenders at the 2-3 in Moon, and Parker. Nothing special, but Smitch is possibly the dumbest coach in teh world for leaving Kapono on the finals MVP while he was going off in the 4th.

But I agree we do need some better D on the perimiter, and looks like we're looking to make a trade.

Good game guys.

He really cant be stopped. He is like a machine that once gets rolling there is nothing that can slow him down. He is playing with so much confidence in himslef and teammates. We are only going to see more and more of these game. Just think back to game 7 against CLE. he was a beast.
