Gerald starting for the mavs tonight

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Wed Nov 12, 2008 2:00 am

He has made a bad turnover or two but so far playing well, 9 first quarter points, we may have given up on the kid a little too soon (though i was i would have prefered not to include him in the trade, and we didnt really have a place for him) he looks like a good rookie out there, still needs alot of work but you can see the talent, he has filled out a little bit.

yep, he also started the last game and had a double double. I didn't think we'd have any playing time for him last season, so I wasn't upset to see him go because I thought he'd have a better shot elsewhere. (Which turned out to be false.)
I'm glad to see him playing well in Dallas. After this season, he's a FA, which means that he could come back if Danny and Doc want him...(He only got a min. 1 year deal.)

I'm okay with that trade to say the least. Even if GG develops into a star, we still have #17, making it worth it. I am glad G$ has made himself into a solid NBA player, Carlisle is a good coach and will make him play defense. Dallas is a great place to play- Cuban pampers those players and the fans love the team.

Just remember, it wasn't just us who gave up on him- Minnesota and Houston also did.

No. We got KG and at least 1 championship with a good chance for a 2nd one in the next 3 years. Even if Green becomes an all star, the deal was worth it. Green hasn't proven anything yet, he just had a couple of ok games. The teams that should worry about giving up too soon are the Wolves and Rockets. And even if Green becomes good with Dallas, it doesn't mean he would have become that with us. It might have taken him being traded twice and waived to realize that he needs to work harder to make it in this league.

he has been playing well this season and during the preseason. now that he's starting for howard, he has been really impressive. good for him but no reason to feel bad for boston fans. we won #17 and still fighting to get more.

hope he continues to improve and live up to potential.

I found out he's starting because Howard is injured and Stackhouse is old. He didn't earn the starting job straight out.

However this is critical opportunity that he doesn't deserve at this point. Hopefully he takes advantage of it.

I'm glad he's playing well, he was always a good kid, he just needed to get into a team where the vets cold show him the way and he wasn't getting that from the young Celtics and Wolves teams.

just shows you how bad the Mavs are....whatever happened to Dirk Nowitzki?....he was invisible against the Lakers tonight---and for years everyone thought he was better than Paul Pierce....would anyone here trade Pierce for him right now?

We didn't give up on him. Minnesota and Houston did. The only player we gave up on in the '07 summer that was in that trade was Telfair, Gomes and Green were still assets in the KG deal.

As for how he's doing, when a lot of us were giving up on Green back in '07, I started to think how he could do really well in a system like Pheonix, where he'd have a great playmaker that would be looking to take advantage of his shooting ability and would set his offense up for him. Maybe the offense doesn't favor him as much in Dallas, but he's got every bit at least as good of a playmaker in Kidd who should be able to help him at least put up some stats that'll get him to stick in the league.

I really hope the best for Green. I'm hoping he's just a case of someone who wasn't getting the fundamentals because he was having cellar dwelling teams hammer them into him (never really even had a chance in Houston).

I will admit I am a flip flopper when it comes to Gerald Green. I personally feel like we didn't give up on him. At the time of the trade I still held out belief that he was a future blue chipper and that he was a big part of the trade for KG. Then when Minnesota gave up on him so quickly I thought I had been duped by hype machine. So when somebody started a thread last week that GG was playing well I decided I would watch Laker Dallas game.

And I was impressed. All the things we knew he was capable of doing he is doing. He is no Tracy McGrady clone and never will be. That hype was bull all along. However, he is filling out and bulking up a bit and he does have the same length as McGrady and that is a huge asset. He really can become a devastating rebounder if he wants to. His current success is all due to Jason Kidd. Gerald is like an extension of Jason's brain right now. And that is what he has needed. GG doesn't get it but he has the tools. Learning the ropes from one of the greatest on-court basketball minds like Jason Kidd is exactly what he needed. When Jason sees a hole in the defense he uses GG as his dunking finisher just like he used to use KMart (who has proven to be a bust away from Kidd).

However, I think GG is showing major improvement on his own too. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I always liked GG but questioned his dedication. He is proving us wrong. He won't ever be a superstar but he can be an excellent starter and who knows .... maybe even a one time all star some day if he is on a winner and finally learns to defend which he will barring injury. I thought his ceiling was Ricky Davis and although he won't be the multidimensional offensive threat Ricky is, his rebounding and size combined with shot and athleticism could make him a better fit for a winning team.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I was thinking this exact same thing yesterday...

And the Mavs window is welded shut, just like Detroit's. Granted, they were jobbed in the 2006 Finals by the refs, but still, they have no chance now.

Dirk is 7' who can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. Take KG's offensiv game and add 3 point range. He is still nasty.

Fixed.

Plus, if KG dropkicked a ball, pushed an exercise bike, and karate kicked a wall, the ball would explode, the bike would shatter, and the wall would have a size 20 hole in it:

I really wish GG has a successful career but nowadays I feel much more comfortable with Ray Allen.
But, of course, I might be wrong.....
