call me crazy... this is the lineup...

Post#1 » by HoustonRockets » Wed Nov 12, 2008 4:10 am

of coarse this would be when battier and stevie are healthy...

C-Yao - Scola - dorsey
PF-Landry - Scola - hayes
SF-Battier - barry -
SG-Artest - Francis - head
PG-TMAC - Alston - Brooks

tmac needs to run the point... i was never a fan of him, but now i can justify it... he cant shoot at all anymore, injured or not... he is the reason why we lost two games... but i say allow him to play the point... deep down he knows he cant shoot anymore, but he can still pass... and with his length and quickness (if he tries) will trouble every point guard in the league...

artest at shooting guard, he has been on an awful start shooting IMO, however id rather have him shooting than tmac, he also needs to post up just a tad bit more, and on defense he should guard the 2nd best perimeter player,

Battier at small forward... not much to explain here... hes not the greatest offensive threat, but he can make jumpers at a decent rate, and a decent 3 point shooter, on defense he should guard the best perimeter player, cause i feel he is alot better man to man than artest is...

Landry at power forward... not much of a fan of landry, but we need some athleticism in the paint, to counter for yao's lack of... he can also hit the 16 footer just as well as scola... though i think scola is a more complete player, lets put landry out there

yao at center... hops or no hops, being that tall , u cant let the damn rim block you... he doesnt need to be to be shooting jumpers or fade aways, or sitting picks, or standing at the free throw line... defensively, i think he is still above average, however he has to jump out at shooting centers...

Alston on the bench, i think he has come a long way, and i like him as a point guard, but if u cant shoot, you cant play... backup for tmac...

brooks is coming along nicely, i like his game... but you cant teach size... plays in the game as a backup for tmac ... or plays to scores....

barry is a barry... he knows how to play basketball... and should just be used for substitutions at a maximum of 5 minute stretches...

Scola is the back up for yao ming and carl landry... scola is a good player...

steve francis, i believe is going to be one heck of a surprise imo... i think he is gonna get a second stretch to his career, as a reliable scoring guard with above average defense...

hayes is a tough guy, but should only be used in certain situations... ie. garbage minutes

head i believe needs to be worked into the rotation, somehow... i think he is good for a couple of points....

we need to start dominating... i dont believe this is the right coach for this team... JVG, seriously could take us deep IMO... but no need for whining now, rick is what we got, and is a great coach also...

tmac , artest, battier... will prevent alot of drives to the basket, making it easier for yao...

call me crazy... but i say with this team, and this lineup along with other things i have mentioned... we will go deep into the playoffs... but i think that is the best starting lineup we can have... well end games in the first half...

tell me what you think guys...

Artest ball handling skill is not good enough to play guard on offense. T-Mac is just slow now. He can't move the ball up court fast enough to get some fast break points. He also aint quick enough to guard anybody, don't expect him to guard the quickest player (PG) on the court. Just watched Atlanta vs Chicago, Johnson was having trouble guarding Rose.

IMHO...adelman needs 2 squads...a slow one...with Yao as the focal point....and a high speed, run and gun line-up with Artest and T-mac....you can mix and match the remaining players. That way we can slow it down with the grind it out teams and run with the best of em. Your lineup isn't "crazy" if we play the right team, but to be a coach in the NBA you gotta be able to change on the fly.

The only way you'll ever see that particular lineup on the court (Francis at sg, etc) is in a videogame.

If McGrady can't guard the likes of Ray Allen and Brandon Roy, what makes you think that he'll be able to guard Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Allen Iverson, et al.?

Tmac would get a back ache and lean over and keel from the pain of having to hunch over and guard the points in this league.. Quickness? maybe back in 04' he could be you gotta be kidding me.

Back to Scola.. he's not the dominating post player he is when not in the Rockets lineup. It's funny how people still don't even bother to consider how much of a disappointment it is that he isn't co-dominating the post play along with Yao. I blame the Adelman system and not being able to play at a variety. That's the nail in the coffin people don't understand. It would open up Artest and TMac's game if Scola could be an offensive post threat as well.

Yes!!! I love it!!! Turn McGrady into Magic Johnson!! nah, but I think once Battier returns we need to try and bench Artest.

Crazy because...
T-Mac can't guard PGs,nor can Battier or Artest
Landry can't guard starting PFs and he's picking up fouls in quick bunches
It's a kinda slow line-up and would be very vulnerable to fast breaks
The big mis-match favoring Rockets would be the other team's PG prob guarding Battier, who won't take advantage of it.

Thats not crazy. Once Battier is back healthy I expect the Rockets to CLOSE games with that lineup but definatley not to start the game.

True. Chasing a quick PG would burn up T Mac and you'd lose his offense. Artest weighs about 255 these days and it's been awhile since he guarded a quick SG more than a few minutes. Landry + Yao are hardly speed guys so they will have trouble helping when the other team is bound to try to run you to death. You COULD get away with this for a few minutes here and there, especially if the opponent is weak at G,or slow, but probably those few are teams you beat anyhow.

This is the NBA. There aren't enough good point guards to make this a valid concern. No he couldn't guard Deron Williams or Chris Paul or Tony Parker. Yes he could guard every other PG we would have to face in this conference. And if he couldn't...Battier could.

Look when Battier comes back we need him on the court and McGrady and Artest. Alston is gonna have to take a seat. McGrady going to have to run the point. I think between him and Battier we can match up with any point other the ones I named.

I been watching the Atlanta playing in their last 2 games (thanks to stupid NBA League Pass Broadband blacking out almost all the games). Joe Johnson is actually guarding the opponent PG just like some people wanted T-Mac to do.

vs Chicago
Bibby is on Gordon and Johnson is on Rose. Johnson isn't quick enough to stay in front of Rose, he's getting helps from his teammates.

vs Boston
Bibby is on Allen and Johnson is on Rondo. Basically Johnson is the help defender to go guard everyone daring Rondo to shoot.

Not sure if T-Mac can play that kind of role in our team, since Yao is too slow to rotate on defense.
