Delonte West

Post#1 » by sam_I_am » Tue Nov 11, 2008 12:08 pm

It is nice to see Delonte thriving in Cleveland. Many of us thought he could be a special player. Hopefully he can stay healthy and keep his confidence up. He can be unusually streaky and shoot nearly 60% for a full month and then go cold. Playing next to Lebron whose ballhandling takes all the pressure off West is just the perfect situation. Hopefully West won't play this well in the playoffs. His 3 pt. attempt in game 7 in the waning minutes that rattled in and out nearly ruined a perfect season.

He is getting to play the 2 guard spot over at Cleveland - much like Eddie House. It's a nice fit for him.. Still I would take House - more clutch and less cash.

Delonte was my favorite player when he was with the C's. I'm really happy to see him playing well with Cleveland. I always loved his balls to the wall effort that he gave night in, night out no matter the score or our record. It's good to see players like that (and Leon, for example) succeed.

I also got the opportunity to cover the team with a friend of mine for a radio station he worked at, so I got to inteview the guys a few times and Delonte was hilarious. I always made sure I was around when he was giving interviews.

When his shot wasn't falling it seemed to be the result of psychological/confidence issues. It was always inferred that he was our best practice shooter. In the preseason he was treated for some sort of mood disorder....if his head can stay permanently the whole 60% thing can be permanent too, IMO. Given that, combined with his attitude and leadership abilities, I'd take him over Eddie, no offense to Eddie. This also means the Cavs are going to be tougher to overcome next time around.

How's his D on tall/faster SG's?

...

I always liked the Delonte/Rondo backcourt combo. It was super scrappy.

I wouldn't mind having Delonte here along with Rondo and Eddie...but alas, it will never be!

I like the matchup of D. West vs. Ray Allen. So I don't think he is helping them that much against us. But Mo Williams is a big upgrade for them at PG. So the Cavs are certainly upgraded. We shall see though. I think Wally gets traded soon enough with his expiring contract so we won't see the Wally vs. Ray battle again.

I think Mo Williams is an upgrade, but people were going a little too ga-ga over it...it's not like he's **** Magic Johnson or anything.

I still think Cleveland is the 3 seed and doesn't make the conf. finals again...

He has a decent handle - is a pretty good assist guy - he is an excellent scorer ... It's a pretty huge upgrade. The Cavs were what a .500 team last year. Now with Mo at point they will be a .600 team. That's a pretty big upgrade no?

I'd like to see Delonte back, along with AJ.

Dallas can keep Gerald Green - starter or not.

We love Delonte. Mo's addition had as much of an impact on Delonte as anything else. Delonte is tough and now he is looking like a much better #4 option for us. He was a #3 option last year and he isn't good for that role. At #4 he can just hit spot-up shots and even get to the hoop.

Mo Williams was an underrated upgrade. Nobody mentioned it for some reason. He has our offense far more organized in addition to his obvious skills as a shooter. He is the perfect PG compliment for LeBron. He can be the lead ball-handler at times but he can also catch and shoot as good as any PG in basketball. He is "only" averaging 15 points and about 5 assists per game, but he is finding his spot very nicely.

But West as a backup PG the way he is playing will be a huge plus for them in the playoffs. Sure, he has more than he can handle guarding Ray or Rondo. So maybe in the playoffs he becomes a 6th man. Cleveland has a lot of expiring money and they will likely bring in a max salary veteran at trading deadline at the 2. He also could be traded with Wally's expiring to bring in a Richard Jefferson or a Michael Redd too.

Yeah, Pete, he is an upgrade, but people have been making it out like he automatically puts Cleveland as the favorite to win it all...I just don't see it. They needed 41 from LeBron to win the other night...how often is that going to work? A lot, sure, but not always, and he will be worn down come playoff time if that's what's needed to the Cavs to win 45-50 games.

Ive been thinking for months that the cavs will make a deal for Vince Carter by the deadline and I still do. Before anyone dissmisses Carter just remember how he played after Toronto traded him. If they can gel James,Carter,Williams, and big Z is a scary foursome offensively.

Cavs have a great team as it is. They are very underrated, IMO. They play the best defense after us in the league.

^^I agree, but they still have serious flaws, mostly scoring the ball. They have the most inept and (Please Use More Appropriate Word) offense in the league among contending teams, IMO.

I like Mo Williams but what I have see of him this season he is disgrace defensively. The Cavs need a real SG, and one that plays defense so LeBron can play the 3/4 were he is just a beast on both ends.

I really like Delonte as a player and even though he has never developed the necessary skills to be a full time pg in the league. It is funny when you see Boston now Rondo shows you how far from a starter he really was but House shows you how good a combo guard he really is.

In the end it is going to be about Tony Allen and not Eddie House that determines what role Delonte could have filled here.
