Bynum doesnt look as good as two years ago right now
He clearly is mentally not with it following the knee--I mean he is doing things that get him 10-10 because he's smart and 7-1 285 but the explosiveness that was literally making him the best big man in the league last year is just not there. He's getting the blocks and he's rebounding OK[he really should be at the 13-14 level] but the one thing when I watch him is the difference on the O. Last year he would be able to dunk from so many positions and angles and now its a jumpshot from 4 feet. He needs to have a 20-20 type game playing 40 hard minutes and follow it up to get himself out of it. His knee will get stronger over the year.

Re: Bynum doesnt look as good as two years ago right now
It takes time to get back in the groove after an injury like that.
I blew my ACL out a few years back, and it took me about two full years to recover what little athletic ability I had. Granted, that's as a guy who was in my early 30s, without access to the medical care Andrew does, but still. When you have a major injury, any major injury, there's going to be a layer of rust you have to shake off.
At the very least, his mere presence means so much to our team simply by blocking shots, rebounding and allowing Pau to play his natural position. Offense is the least of his concerns right now. Plus, I wouldn't count on seeing him play 40 minutes, or put up too many 20/20s. With our depth, I doubt he's going to get that opportunity.

He looks great where we need him the most, rebounding and defense. He is struggling on offense, but like I said, where we need him most isn't scoring. Just give him some time.

Re: Bynum doesnt look as good as two years ago right now
really? I though Bynum's been awesome. All that talk about him and Gasol not playing well together. I think the Lakers are better than they were at any point last season. He's what Gasol needed desperately and I swear he's got the best hands in the league, pretty much his catching ability is the opposite of Kwame's. Just last night I saw him corral a horrible pass from Odom to put it in, then Kobe threw him a bullet from about 5 feet away and he put it in.
I understand his numbers aren't where they need to be, IMO Phil should've played him more last night, but he's a huge presence. Dampier was lucky as hell to grab that many boards last night. Bynum will continue to improve as the season goes on also.

Well last year many teams didn't expect Bynum to be an inside threat until later during the year, but then got injured. So now that he's back to full strength, teams are already aware of Bynum and most likely will tighten up their defense in the middle.
If i was the coach of the opposing team, i would definitely tell my guys to give him a hard time. I don't want to see him make easy shots. Force him out to shoot the ball...etc...
But thus far, i think he's doing great. Keep it up Bynum..

I think he looks good to be coming off of an injury, he's not where he wants to be yet but we've only played 6 games its going to take some time for him to get his fluidity back

I think it's due to Bynum and Pau trying to co-exist on the floor @ the same time. Pau is more of an offensive threat than Drew is and both of them play behind Kobe. Add all the other weapons in the arsenal. There aren't enough basketballs on the court to keep everyone's production down.
You could make the same arguement Kobe doesn't look as good as last season or two seasons ago. But you look @ the teams record and you see what really counts.

he doesn't look as good as TWO yrs ago? wtf?
i don't think drew's defense has ever looked this good. on offense, he plays just like the drew of last yr when he's in there with odom. with gasol, he's clearing out the paint a bit more and still learning what spots to be at. his touch has been a bit off, but he's also starting to use a wider array of moves. i've been quite pleased so far.

Lets not forget he never played college basketball, played 46 games his first year and averaged 7 minutes a game, 82 games in his second year and 35 in his 3rd season. Thats a total of 169 games played. That averages out to 2 full seasons in the nba. Avergagin a double double every night is not bad for someone with such little basketball experience. If you look at his numbers as his minutes have gone up so has his production. On top of all of that he is 21yrs old who's body has yet to mature and you expect him to go up against physcially more mature men and dominiate. Andrew has a lot to learn about basketball but he is making progress which is all anyone can ask.

rebounding and defense, thats the bottom line. there was a small stretch where dallas was grabbing plenty of 2nd chance opportunities, jax yanked odom and placed bynum into the game, and that area was cleaned up right away.
thats his job right now, defense and rebounding. and a few blocked shots to boot.

Yeah let's do it lol. I love that remark made about Dallas not on same level as us and Jazz lol.
Didn't Phil stated that he wanted Drew to be a big defensive presence and not a major scorer...
If you take away Pau's numbers and average it out to Drews'.. it pretty much adds up to where is is at last yearl. I think we have the best front court out there. Big, Versatile, Fast, Finese (pau lol), rebounding.. argh argh argh!! sorry too excited there... and offensive.

offensivly, not really. two years ago he really had nothing. no hooks, didn't dunk, zero footwork. he is way ahead of two years ago. he is also better fundamentally than last year.
defensivly he is far better than he has ever been. he is playing far smarter that he ever has.

Re: Bynum doesnt look as good as two years ago right now
bynum hasnt needed to score so much since gasol's come in
its a bloody luxury to have
quit your whining
we're all looking forward to the day he catches the ball in the low post, immediately spins and throws up a sky hook with both left and right hands
opponents would be sh*ting in their pants then
