T-Mac plays a lot better on national TV

Post#1 » by Storm Surge » Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:41 pm

What I believe in watching McGrady for the past 2 years especially now that he's clearly lost a step, he seems to play a lot better when the game is on National TV.

This season, his best games were against Dallas(TNT), Boston(NBATV), and against Portland(also TNT)

My observation watching those games is that he drives a lot more, and he plays much more aggressively. He played terribly in our locally broadcasted games, why? I guess he puts out a lot more effort on National TV.

As for the Dallas TNT game, despite him not being in the game in the 4th, he had a ton of free throws in that game, this shows he drived to the basket a lot more, even though his jumper was off.

This is NOT what you want from a star, if T-Mac played on National TV for all 82 games he would be so much better. He needs to perform regardless of who's watching.

lol, I'll admit I was thinking the same thing earlier today....but it's more a coincidence than anything. He knew people would talk about the Lakers game yet he scores 3 points and goes 1-11 from the field.

Too many excuses. Both he and Yao just need to man up an bring it every night like leaders should. There are ways to take nights off and still be effective. McGrady use to be good at doing those things. Now he is going 1-11 and 0-5 in consecutive games.

Its really important to point out that neither Yao or Artest have been playing any better. It just seems like there is more going on here than just not trying hard enough.

Is Yao getting closer and closer to be like Big Z? a finesse center with no hops. Big Z doesn't get roughed up like Yao does, but he knows how to put the ball in the hoop and he knows how to pass the ball of a backing up

T-Mac does stepped up his game in playoffs just not his teammates. But that statement about him playing better on National TV is pretty lame.

I am TELLING you guys this is the TRUTH, go back and watch the tapes of Rockets games on national TV and not on national TV, count how many times he drives to the basket, I guarantee you it is higher when the game is on national TV.

Rockets will win vs. the Suns on ESPN, T-Mac will play a lot better(hard not to after his last 2 games but still)

No. Its not that.

For a star player he takes too many tough shots. Every shot is contested it seems with him. He needs to get easier shots. And since he doesn't run the floor or drive consistently...the post game is the way to get him those.

Hubie Brown said it in the telecast. He got a lot of post looks and he got about 3 or 4 shots right at the basket. That set him off. Its important for him to get a few easy shots to get him going.

Because he doesn't have the explosiveness with that knee you'll see 0-5...1-11 shooting nights if he gets the ball in a position where he has to get to the basket from 20-25 feet out.

Adelman ran post ups for him all night. And he it got him going. We need to see more of that.

Yeah, that's one of Macs main strengths, and its always been something hes been good at since his prime. That turnaround Jay posting up is like ICE.

his 13 in 33 was also on National TV, on TNT against teh Spurs if you guys remember.

There is a definite correlation. I mean everything points to it, sick playoff stats, best moments coming on Nat TV etc.

But he is a VERY streaky player so like Iggy said he needs to get those few easy looks where he can knock down the shots. If he starts off with long jumpshots and misses and continues throwing up jumpshots that usualy means it'll be a rough nite.

Return to Houston Rockets
