Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
Poll- The 160M$ question- Can Iguodala and Brand complement each other. As Young emerges as a possible star, are the 3 the right fit to build a contender?
Or did the team spend 160M on 2 players whose games are oil and water, and will not thrive on the same team.
Heading into the year I though Brand would fit with anyone, and that the two would be a great combination. Maybe with time, coaches, other moves they still can be. Right now I have doubts. Can they be the cornersone of a winer?

By major move I mean new PG, new center (Speights eventually) and likely a new coach.
I'm not saying this should happen, but it might be needed to make the key cogs of Thad, Brand and Iguodala click.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
I voted 'yes' prior to reading how you defined 'major overhaul' .
I think the pieces are there. Given further development of Young, Williams and Speights and the addition of a couple of shooters (including possibly a shooting point guard), this team can be right there. I don't expect it to happen this year, but I will be disappointed if Philly can't win more than 45 games.
I'm still willing to be patient for a little bit longer until I really start to worry about this team. For some reason I just can't see this team not putting it together. When it comes down to it, talent is talent, and a 'poor fit' is only a partial excuse in my books. Just don't ask me for the solution.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
I think Iguodala and Brand can work but we need to make some changes. The first being a new coach. I'm sure you all know how I feel about Mo at this point.
I'd like to see how Miller plays on this team with a new coach before I traded Miller. If it still isn't working out at that point (meaning Miller is still trying/needing to score a lot) than I'd try to replace him with a PG that can shoot the 3. I don't think Lou is ready to be the starting PG, or even a starter period.
The center spot isn't a big concern for me right now. I think Sammy will be alright even though he still makes me scream profanities on a regular basis.
Our bench can use some work. I like what Evans brings to a team but I think we should trade him. Green played well early in the season but he needs to go too. What do we trade them for, I don't know, but I don't think we need what they bring (or don't bring more importantly) to the table.

I've changed course on these two guys, but not just because of their play. To get rid of either one of these players, Stefanski would have to give up another asset. At this point, it's not worth it to give up another piece just to rid this team of a bad contract; especially when the aforementioned assets may be helpful in acquiring a shooter or a point guard in the event that this team isn't able of turning things around. The team isn't bound by the salary cap, and the days of clearing cap space are over. Green and Evans are valuable pieces of our bench, albeit overpaid.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
I think Iguodala can fit when he stops thinking he's a franchise player. He gets most of his points out of early lanes/fast break chances. He needs to learn to play OFF THE BALL. When he does that(and plays some decent defense to get steals and get out on the break). He'll become the 80 million man we paid.
Untill then, watch Iguodala brick shot after shot. Play horrible defense and make Kareem Rush my starter.

It is too soon to tell. I think a lot of Iggy's problems right now have nothing to do with Brand, he is just playing bad. He was also pretty bad in the playoffs last year so I don't know what to make of him right now.

I'm not sure that he does think he's a franchise player. Take last night for instance: He ran a few isolation plays and took a couple of shots which I cringed at (which ended up going in), but for the most part got his points on the break and was effective facilitating the offense for others. He also played great defense up until the 4th quarter. The first three quarters of last night's game are a great gauge for how he should be playing.

Yes. They need to develop chemistry and it's up to the coaching staff to keep drilling it into their heads.
Miller is the one that doesn't fit, it's time to start looking for a new pg.

I agreed with that sentiment before tonight's game, but if he can learn to play like he did tonight, we might be alright- and please Andre Miller, pleeeaaase no more three point shots. Iguo played a heck of a passing game tonight.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
Not even close...my judgment might be flaw since i've not seen many sixers game but here is my two cents. Iggy is not a go to guy meaning he can't take over games or is capable of handling the ball and do whatever he wants. Look at iggy and guys like t-mac,wade, etc. Iggy is a like a slasher and needs a great guard to help him create his offense. As for brand it's to early to tell so far he looks like he lost his game. But if iggy was a go to guy the sixers would be deadly. Young looks like he might be the go to guy in the futre. But the real 160m question should be iggy, brand, sammy.

Who was the go-to guy last night?

Point is, if they can learn to mesh, they don't need a "go to guy". They need to play to Brand's strengths and continue to funnel the offense through him. Sammy's got to O rebound strong when shot's up. Looking over last night's stats, it's the way it should read if we're going to win: Brand's the main scorer, Thad, AIG and Miller have to be reliable. Speights takes over some of Sammy's minutes and provides a little scoring. Green and Lou have to keep scoring up off the bench.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
Despite the lack of offensive production from the floor, I think Iggy would be worth very close to what he received if he continues to play as he did last night. Of course we can't expect 10 assists a night, but you know what I mean. He played a great overall game that I would like to see from him more often. We don't necessarily need a lot of scoring from him.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
How is anyone supposed to make any resonable statement about the long term implications of what are long term moves, when Brand is coming off missing a year and is playing in a new system, Iggy is 24 and is 8 games into playing in a new offense, with new responsibilites, and a new position, and Young is 20 years old and is playing a new positions? Based on the 8 games we played, they aren't a great fit, but that can easily change by the 40th game of the season. I think they have the potential to fit together just fine.

Re: Poll- The 160M$ question- Iguodala and Brand (and Young)
Not to nitpick your question tk, but choices 1 and 3 are not incompatible. Asking whether 3 players might form the basis of a future contender implies change (future) and ignores the supporting cast. I chose 1, although I think a new PG, C and coach are likely in the next year or two. Since Miller has an expiring contract and the team has tried, unsuccesfully, to trade sam numerous times if rumors are to be believed, then I don't call these a major overhaul, but more of a natural progression and building of a team. I would have also preferred a fourth choice that included Speights as part of the "core" of a future contender.

You are just bitter, because people attack you when you make a poll
I was tired and very grumpy when I posted this. Now that Willie Green has emerged as our future pick and pop specialist I feel much better. WG is channeling the alien know as Cassell. Now all we need is for Speights to continue channeling Hakeem and his dream shake and we can start engraving the LOB Trophy.
