Who do you want as our next coach?

Post#1 » by TDWOLVESFAN » Thu Nov 13, 2008 5:18 pm

I pick Jeff Van Gundy.

Wittman isn't getting the required defensive play out of the guys he's giving the minutes to. He needs to make changes to his rotations to attain this. He won't though.

Last year he was the coach to have. He was willing to set aside personal records to evaluate players and teach. He doesn't have the game management skills needed to coach in the NBA. Too slow on calling timeouts, force feeds overmatched lineups, and can't make adjustments on the fly. He plays Foye and McCants far too much for the return we are getting. I like Craig Smith but he can't defend 7 footers nor can Ryan Gomes.

I don't believe anyone on his staff is capable of stepping in a making a major difference either.
I've been a fan since the beginning and I will be until my end.

Foye has actually had a pretty decent string of games. His 3 pt shooting is still off but im still sure that will come back. It seems like McCants knows he is done here. Just by watching him you can almost see him forcing his way out. Its sad really, i dont want to watch him leave to join a team and be the player we all know he can be but i think thats what will end up happening.

This probably could have been thrown in the fire Wittman thread.

As for the next head coach, there is a guy whose name was thrown around a few years ago but i havent seen anyone mention him here, Jay Wright. I know he signed like a 7-year extension in Villy but we all know how much that means in the real world. Im not sure he would be the right guy since he is coming from a guard oriented system but i would like to see what others think.

I don't know anything about Wright.

If I were McHale, I would take a long hard look at Jeff Van Gundy, Tom Thibodeaux, and Mike Budenholzer.

JVG seems like he'd only be here short term and I'd like someone to be here for the long haul.

I know a lot of you guys don't have a high opinion of Avery Johnson, but I think he got a bad rep for his team getting old and crappy and him not handling it well. I think he did pretty well for a 1st time coach, he had his players playing really well for a while. I'm sure he learned a lot from the whole situation.

I'd like to see him get a 2nd chance here.

Didn't think of him - maybe he could help the point guards out too.

Not to mention he used to be on a team that featured a dominant low post guy. I think that's a plus.

Van Gundy would be my clear cut favorite. Avery Johnson is actually a pretty good idea though and I wouldn't mind him here one bit.

I'll do it. I've got 10 yearsd of coaching youth/high school/AAU basketball on my resume. I could whip the pups into shape.

DIAMOND PRESS everytime down on defense and if we have to set-up half court we'll run BASELINE FLEX.

Unstoppable!

I dont want to bash Avery because he did make Dallas a Western Powerhouse and his win % is ridiculous. I just dont think Avery is the right guy for a rebuilding situation. If he can show he has the ability to be patient with the young talent and guide them along over a long period of time, then i have no problem bringing him here. Im just not sure he is the guy. He had young Harris and Diop working hella hard. If he can do the same for our guys here then i say we give him a chance.

I agree with PeeDee that i dont want any patch up coaches, i do want one for the long run, we cant keep giving these young kids different HC's.

id take van gundy in a heart beat.

use the money from the Chalmers deal and try to get Doug Collins here.

Something! Anybody!

Hell, hold a winning seat contest before each game. If youre sitting in that lucky seat, you get to coach the Timberwolves. Anythings better then Twitt

Sichting as a midseason replacement. If he get this team past .400 or so, the team is his. Otherwise throw money at Tom Thibodeaux. I've heard a couple different places that JVG is holding out for LAL once Jackson finally retires. I've no interest in him, Flip, or Collins.

I want someone who'll stress defense, help the kids develop and can make smart substitutions in game situations.

Who's got that on a resume'?

Sam Cassell so he could teach Foye and McCants the art of the dagger.

You'll never get Naismith out of retirement.

What about Fred Hoiberg? I know he's part of the FO but wasn't there some talk about him taking over as head coach a while back? It might be better for the players to have a coach who has been around the club for a while and knows them well, instead of an old traveller.
