Favre: "Trade Me!" (Or so it's said)

Post#1 » by Rooster » Sun May 13, 2007 7:23 pm

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6805 ... &GT1=10035

Just two or three days after last month's NFL Draft, Favre's agent Bus Cook phoned Green Bay's general manager Ted Thompson and asked that his client be traded, the sources said. In the conversation, Cook railed off on how his client was fed up with the organization and wanted out.

The trade request was relayed to head coach Mike McCarthy, who immediately phoned the Super Bowl-winning quarterback. However, the quarterback ignored all his calls for a week, letting the request fester and perhaps showing the team how upset he was this time.

Finally, in the middle of this past week, the two connected. Sources close to the situation said Favre asked McCarthy if he was aware that Cook asked for a trade but McCarthy immediately insisted that would not happen.

Favre should retire imo - going out with a four-game win streak stomping the NFC champs was a fine way to go considering the likely alternatives. This is just mind-boggling, although I can see why he'd be frustrated in Green Bay.

Thoughts, everyone?

Pfft.

Little late to request a trade isn't it Bret?

There really isn't a market for this guy, so he's going to have to suck it up and play for GB or retire.

I still think there would be teams that would take a chance on him. The Bears would be perfect, but we all know it would never happen consdering they are in the same divison. I dont know.

You should probably mention somewhere here that the article mentions he rescinded the request.

Reading comprehension violates the TOS.

Wait, it doesn't? Oh.

Anyway, I get the feeling this is overblown reporting by football writers who have nothing else to talk about in May. Favre can still give league-average production, which means a few teams would take a flyer on him... but none of them would be contenders, most likely. Favre will lead the Pack to another middling season and then the "Will he retire?" cycle will start all over again.

I wish he would do us all a favor and retire...

Maybe ESPN is paying him off to keep playing so they don't have to stop talking about him.

I don't think so; they're too busy throwing all their cash at trying to sweep the Michael Vick allegations under the carpet.

Yeah, probably should've... I just found it interesting that he mentioned it in the first place.

I don't mind him coming back, but if it is for another team, it just looks pathetic on his part.

How many contending teams could Favre start for? Okay, the Bears have been mentioned -- that won't happen until Hell turns into the Frozen Tundra. Anyone else?

The point is, anyone who suggests Favre should move on to win a ring is overlooking the fact that his new team will have almost no shot at a ring... mainly because it will have Brett Favre at QB.

Favre proved me wrong in '06 by looking slightly less washed up than I thought he was. That's the best I can say about him at this stage in his career.
