Thunder get booed in Oklahoma City

Post#1 » by JO_CB_FTW » Thu Nov 20, 2008 3:52 pm

With 2:50 remaining in the third quarter Wednesday night, Thunder fans no longer could contain their frustration.

So they did the unthinkable.

They booed.
For two full seasons while hosting the displaced Hornets, local NBA fans never booed the home team.

With the Los Angeles Clippers in the midst of a 42-12 run that required less than 12 minutes, Thunder fans broke their silence when coach P.J. Carlesimo called for a timeout.

There were more groans than boos, but undeniably, there were boos.

Philly fans boo Santa Claus, but Oklahoma City pro basketball fans don’t boo anything that’s theirs.

Until Wednesday.

The Clippers went on to post a 108-88 victory before a crowd of 18,312 at the Ford Center, handing the 1-11 Thunder its ninth straight loss.

Upon his arrival in Oklahoma City, Carlesimo was told of the city’s boo-free zone.

Carlesimo said he hoped the trend continued but would understand if Thunder fans booed when his team’s play warranted it.

Against the Clippers, it was warranted.

What are the Thunder trying to prove?

IMO, things seem out of place. Durant is a SF. Green should be the first SF/PF off the bench.

This team has ZERO shooting guards. Wilkins and Mason are not SG's. They can at least pretend as back SG's. Neither is a natural scorer.

They need to sign one player who is going to play 30 plus minutes a night who is going to be happy he is in the league! Someone who will lead! Where is the pride? where is the spirit?

8 PF and centers? Develop the bigs or don't!

Please let Joe Smith go so he can sign with a team and win a ring. Let Smith space be taken by one of the younger guys.

The 3 centers must show up or get out of the league.

PF: Wilcox|Collison|White(ir)
C: Swift|Petro|Sene

Release Hill.
If they must, sign a another PF

Come on before it's too late Presti. Before the life is sucked out of the team. Thank you.

The Knicks need a center. Maybe NY and OKC can work something out since you guys have 3 of them.

The booing was definitely warranted. OKC isn't a place to just blindly boo something, but pretty much that entire team deserved it. There were very few bright spots in that attrocious run that the Clipps had. Every play was a turnover or a bad shot. The defensive rotations were poor.

To cap it off, I think everyone in the building's expectations were sky-high after a phenominal performance for most of the 1st half. There was a while in the early-mid 2nd quarter than I felt like I was watching playoff basketball.

I actually thought the first post about OKC not wanting the team would come quicker :)

The support is still great for the team... you see in the same article that it was somewhere in the mid-18,000s. This performance was just particularly bad. I think if they'd come out and just gotten dominated, the boos wouldn't have happened. It was the huge lead and then the absolute falling apart. Maybe it'll be motivational for them, we'll see... they aren't a great team, but I think they should be doing better than winning 1 out of 11!

In 15 years of watching this team, I never saw them get booed. Show some mfing respect ffs.

You better treat them well! We always did
