Then use Terry + Stack + Barea for Marbury & Roberson...I know that one is hard right now, but I'm thinking long term.

I'm on board with dealing everyone for expirings, except Dirk and Josh (who I'd want very good young players for) and our young guys still on rookie/small deals. I think we'll have to add Bass to one deal and probably Green, Williams, or Wright to another. Maybe Terry, Stack, and Bass in one package and Damp/Diop and Wright in another....all netting us expiring contracts.

If the Mavs can position themselves to have Dirk, Josh, and Diop as the major salaries on the roster next season, they'll have $18-20M to work with on the salary cap. If you get rid of enough talent to net a high lottery pick, you'd essentially have the opportunity to add that impact rookie and two impact FAs next offseason. If you could do that, you might then be able to give NJ a late-teens, early-20s pick in 2010 if the team plays well enough. But that FA pool is the dicey part...but it'll be even worse after next year when every team in the league's looking for cap space for Lebron.

It would be incredibly stupid to tradethe young guys whom have a chance to develop
Never have Williams or Green played with players at the caliber of Dirk, Jet, Josh and Jkidd
they need to both be around those guys and see what work ethic is all about and learn to win in the NBA and be held accountable on a good team
You have never seen a straight from high school kid develop strongly on **** team beside probably Lebron and Al Jefferson and Al still cant play defense
Lebron just became a really good defender this year
Kobe was on a good team
Tmac was really athletic and a great one on one player but the DUDE DIDNT KNOW HOW TO ATTACK OR BREAK A ZONE DEFENSE TILL HE WAS 24
if we start sucking really bad...I LOVE JET
but trade Jet, Stack, George, Bass...Barea if anyone wil take him
I wish Memphis would give up Crittenton..he reminds me alot of Rodney Stuckey but a better passer
not as good a scorer...plus hes a 6'5 PG who could learn from Jkiddd

First off, if you don't trade ANY young players, you won't get rid of ANY old players with big contracts...at least not in deals that are at all palatable. So pick your poison.

Second, nobody's suggesting we trade ALL of them. Quite the opposite. I'm simply saying that if we want to rid ourselves of the contracts and players that have held us back for years (JET, Stack, Damp, et al), we may have to throw in a young player with potential in the deal. Note that I never suggested trading Green or Williams; I simply mentioned them in the same breath with Wright (who I'd much rather trade in this scenario).

If you look at what I've been proposing, I've consistently said that we should acquire young players who are role guys right now but who have the potential to become much better. That's what we should be looking at. And I'm not talking about guys making $8M+ per year.
