Would you trade Jefferson/Foye for Rose/Gooden/Milicic?
Successful Trade Scenario. Trade ID #4826837
The Chicago Bulls trade:
Derrick Rose
Drew Gooden
Michael Ruffin
Cedric Simmons
Thabo Sefolosha
The Chicago Bulls receive:
Randy Foye
Al Jefferson
Brian Cardinal
Why this might work for the Chicago Bulls: Derrick Rose is a surefire franchise player. Unfortunately, he and Andres Nocioni are the only ones, who benefit from Chicago's new offensive system. This trade reverts Chicago's offfensive schemes back to the old half-court set, where mainly Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich, Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas should regain their old form. Think of Chicago's impressive 2006 / 2007 campaign, add Al Jefferson and Randy Foye - Bang: Chicago has got a contender on its hands.
1) Kirk Hinrich - Randy Foye - Lindsay Hunter
2) Ben Gordon - Larry Hughes - xxx
3) Luol Deng - Andres Nocioni - xxx
4) Al Jefferson - Tyrus Thomas - Brian Cardinal
5) Joakim Noah - Aaron Gray - xxx
The Memphis Grizzlies trade:
Darko Milicic
The Memphis Grizzlies receive:
Jason Collins (expiring)
Cedric Simmons (expiring)
Thabo Sefolosha
Why this might work for the Memphis Grizzlies: They acquire two expirings and a decent wing defender in Sefolosha for a redundant big man.
1) Mike Conley - Kyle Lowry - Javaris Crittenton
2) OJ Mayo - Marko Jaric - Greg Buckner
3) Rudy Gay - Thabo Sefolosha - Antoine Walker
4) Darrell Arthur - Hakim Warrick - Cedric Simmons
5) Marc Gasol - Hamed Haddadi - Jason Collins
The Minnesota Timberwolves trade:
Randy Foye
Al Jefferson
Jason Collins
Brian Cardinal
The Minnesota Timberwolves receive:
Michael Ruffin (unguaranteed, cut)
Drew Gooden
Darko Milicic
Derrick Rose
Why this might work for the Minnesota Timberwolves: Would you trade Kevin Garnett for Derrick Rose? If I was McHale, I would surely have. This deal turns Minnesota's logjam at the power forward position into a bonafide one-two punch with Rose and Love. Both are very intelligent players and have a wonderful complimentary cast with excellent perimeter shooters in Rashad McCants and Mike Miller, respectively defensive role players in Darko Milicic and Corey Brewer. Moreover, Minnesota shaves off the additional contract year of Cardinal, freeing up capspace to go for further role players to compliment their young nucleus.
1) Derrick Rose - Sebastian Telfair - Kevin Ollie
2) Rashad McCants - Corey Brewer - Rodney Carney
3) Mike Miller - Ryan Gomes - xxx
4) Kevin Love - Craig Smith - Mark Madsen
5) Darko Milicic - Drew Gooden - Calvin Booth

Re: Would you trade Jefferson/Foye for Rose/Gooden/Milicic?
good proposal...i really have to think hard about it if this trade would be an option for the wolves...
al is a beast but rose could be the best point guard in the league one day...
whether we could do this trade depends on how much faith we have in Love that he can be a star in this league. if we believe he can compensate the loss of Al J. in the future then there is no doubt that we should agree on the trade...if we don't think so i wouldn't do it.
you could argue that jefferson is proven and rose not but i think we would have to take the risk to get a dominant pg. another advantage of this trade would be that we could concentrate in next years draft on a defensive minded C (hopfully with Miami's Pick there is a decent one available as i guess they will make the playoffs) and with our own we could hopefully take a look at Demar DeRozan...
Rose
DeRozan
Miller/Brewer
Love
defensive minded C
This would actually be a sick starting 5 we would probably suck until 2010 but our future would be pretty good
Imagine we could somehow draft Thabeet as a C....
I came to the conclusion that I would do that trade ^^

From a Bulls fans perspective this would never happen.

To me, Al Jefferson and Derrick Rose are pretty close. You can't teach size, and I'm not sure you can teach most players all those little moves Jefferson has. Al is locked in for five years at a pretty sweet contract too. Derrick Rose is younger, and on the rookie deal ($4-$8 mil for the #1), but he inevitably could cost more, if we could even get him to commit to MIN's smaller market. It might be more valuable to have a good PG and an elite big man than an elite PG and a good big man. If those guys come out just even, then the other side isn't enough for Foye. However, if MIN decided after a month that they needed to start again, I could see them giving this trade a long look.
Value seems pretty fair but both sides have marketed their #1 guys to have casual fans heavily invested in them in their current cities. Its one of the most interesting proposals I've read this month. Nobody can call you a homer!

Re: Would you trade Jefferson/Foye for Rose/Gooden/Milicic?
I wouldn't bother doing the memphis trade.
ummmmm. That is seriously a tough one. I love Jefferson, but I think Love will turn out to be the more complete player and Rose looks like he is going to be an absolute stud. There is something to said about having defined positions...a true pg for example. If we could get Thabeet than we would have a well defined starting lineup with a true center and true pg....imagine that.
but in reality, I don't think this deal happens. Chicago struck gold winning the lotto and you don't let players like that go. If Jefferson gets traded, this is the type of deal we would want however.

MN ends up with the best player in the trade, seems like a no brainer.

Fetish guards happen every once in a while. Just wait til the league gets some film on him and we will see what happens. Al is a unique talent that you can build around. He is also on a very friendly contract.

Re: Would you trade Jefferson/Foye for Rose/Gooden/Milicic?
Rose has so much potential, and he is showing he could reach, only 4 or 5 years in age difference, Al has top 2 footwork in the league, and has shown he can hit big shots in clutch situations.
Tough decision
I think i might have to take the deal
Minnesota would probably have another top 3 pick this year and could build around a core of Rose and Love, two great complimetary players
Take Derozan, Mullens or Thabett with the top draft pick and we are look at a team with an awesome future
Rose
Miller
Brewer
Love
Mullens
Built very similar to the Hornets

Rose has incredible physical gifts that give him the potential to be dominant on both ends of the court. There's no reason to think what he's doing is a fluke.

I've really had to think about this one. I love Big Al both because of his playing style and because of his personality. That said, PG and C are the two most important positions and the chance to get a franchise PG is probably too good to pass up. We would still have our pick this year to grab a center, say Thabeet. And we would still be able to go after a FA in 2010, say Joe Johnson.
Rose
Johnson
Miller (or Brewer)
Love
Thabeet
That's a pretty sweet starting 5.
Even if we didn't get a Johnson-type FA, we have a nice lineup like Mattya provided.

That would be a sweet starting 5, but it made me think. I don't know if I like Thabeet with Love. Love's a great interior passer and Thabeet has hands of stone. I'd like to have someone who can catch Love's sweet passes.

The only thing I like about this deal is, we seem to have a logjam at the 4 with Jefferson, Love, and Smith. Trading one of them for a franchise PG is a good move.
Rose would hate it. He's from Chicago.

Incidentally, there's a poll going on right now over on the Trade Board where posters are picking which player they feel has the most trade value. Its by no means a scientific study, and horribly unbalanced by each person's views, weightings, and team needs, but Rose came in at #9, and it looks like Al might be #12 or #13.

Re: Would you trade Jefferson/Foye for Rose/Gooden/Milicic?
one thing that makes me hesitate from seeing Jefferson is that his defense is getting better as the games go by and he seems good at getting clutch hoops
Rose should be a great scorer, but Chi fans are already noticing he's getting spent off the dribble too much, so he's more Steve Francis than Gary Payton so far. Obviously he'll get better, but just saying that he's only a 1 way threat so far

If you prefer to keep Collins' expiring, you might be looking at maximum capspace from 2009 until Derrick Rose' rookie scale contract is expiring. Your owner would reap additional profits, while Rose should fill the seats.
How do you like the deal for the other parties of the proposal?

I wonder if it would be better to have Foye go to Memphis and Conley go to Chicago. Conley would probably be better in a halfcourt game in CHI and Foye would look great in MEM.

Re: Would you trade Jefferson/Foye for Rose/Gooden/Milicic?
Ultimately this trade comes down to Rose or Jefferson. Traditionally, you never trade big for small, but this is a no brainer for me. Rose has superstar potential, and I don't think its a stretch to say he's already a top 10 point guard. I like Jefferson a lot and obviously his rebounding and low post offense are a huge plus but I think Rose will have a greater impact on the game of basketball.

Yes.
Anything to get Foye out of here.
if that includes getting rid of Jefferson then so be it. We need to get better defensively.
