Donnie Walsh proves patience pays off....

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Fri Nov 21, 2008 11:16 pm

Crawford for Harrington

then

Randolph and Morris for Mobley and Thomas

These were deals in the summer that Walsh couldn't have made without draft pick amongst other demands from the other team. Now, he gets them.

The lesson here is patience. Some teams PG situation is going to panic and make a move for Tinsley before too long.

Part of that was Zach and Crawford were playing.

Tinsley not playing makes it really tough on us to get anything for him. We'll see.

Salary-wise, those are two GREAT deals for Walsh. Talent-wise, he took a complete hosing, but he knew what mattered most in NY. Thomas and Mobley are definitely decreasing talents, but they do fit the system with D'Antoni.

It'll be interesting to see what LA does with Camby, Kaman, and Randolph at the 4/5 spots.

I wonder what this means for the Knicks in 2010....

Well, the Knicks are doing their part.

If they want a starting PG to put next to LeBron, I'd give them Tinsley for Jared Jeffries!!!!

Supposedly they are close for a Marbury for Shawn Marion deal...

No, they arent. They have a standing offer on the table to the Heat, and Miami would be stupid to do that. They can get a lot more for Marion, and odds are they can get Marbury when he is inevitably bought out too.

New York did what they had to do. They have the coach everyone wants to play for, they have the cap space to lure LeBron and then some, they have the market that everyone wants to play in, and they have a competent front office.

I dont think we took a Hosing at all. Zach is a Beast but Harrington, Thomas and Mobley are going to play very well in this system(Thomas already has and garnered his current Big contract from it)

So, basically, you're hoping that Mobley can play up to what Crawford was doing for you, and that Harrington and Thomas will combine to hopefully equal what Zach was doing for you, as well as Wilson Chandler was doing in his increased minutes that either he will lose, or Tim Thomas will not earn.

While Tim Thomas and Al Harrington cannot match Zack Randolph's offensive prowess, they can't combine to be worse defenders, I think. Zack Randolph is just a warm body on the defensive end of the court at times, and while he does try, it's not a consistent effort that is required of a defensive player. Tim Thomas is also a liability, but for sure Al Harrington can guard multiple positions.

I'd rather have Jamal Crawford than Harrington at this point in their careers.

Randolph might be a poor defender, but he's still a really good offensive low post presence. Mobley is nothing more than a role player now, and Tim Thomas is vegetable lasagna.

From a talent standpoint, the Knicks lost, but it doesn't really matter. NY will be a serious player for LeBron now. Kudos to Walsh.
