k bye pj: carlesimo fired

Post#1 » by PerkinsFor3 » Sat Nov 22, 2008 8:40 am

After losing 12 of 13 games to start the season, P.J. Carlesimo has been fired as Oklahoma City Thunder coach, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Assistant Scott Brooks will take over as the interim coach beginning with Saturday night’s game against the Hornets in New Orleans.

he final indignity for Carlesimo was a mortifying 105-80 loss to the Hornets on Friday night in Oklahoma City. General manager Sam Presti informed Carlesimo of the decision before the team boarded the flight to Louisiana.

Before the feeble start to this season, Carlesimo was 20-62 a season ago in Seattle. As the assistant GM in San Antonio, Presti had worked with Carlesimo, an aide on Gregg Popovich’s coaching staff. Presti and owner Clay Bennett considered firing him over the summer, but allowed Carlesimo a chance to salvage a second chance. With a roster gutted of veterans, this was a difficult job from the start.

It looks legit for sure. PJ has been let go from OKC as head coach. One change down, and many more to go.

Haha, called it.

Anyway, obviroius next step is moving Watson/Collison. Westbrook deserves to start. I think Jeff Green is going to be moved as well. He plays the same position as our franchise player and is too good and has too much value to be riding on the pine

Should've happened during the summer. I think it's too early to give up on Green, though.

Avery is a micro coach per Mavericks.

I honestly can't think of anyone.

He should have known he was set up to fail from the beginning. Nice of the organization to treat him that way.

Oh well, at least he doesn't have to live in Oklahoma.

Changes like that need to happen. The team is a long way from being a solid cohesive unit on both sides of the court. Until more changes come around, this team can't move forward.

PJ never had a chance, and it has nothing to do with his coaching ablility...you can only do so much with certain rosters and its safe to say OKC is one of them...I definitely see you guys trying to move some players around...but I do not disgree with the firing and how fast it happenned into this season...I wouldnt of wasted any time, shaking things up can only benefit OKC...Watson said it best...

Brooks is a good guy, limited coaching experience, but he's a straight shooter, he'll work with what he has...and probably will be a lot less demanding...good luck w/ finding your next head coach, you dont want Avery, imo...

jerseyjac, PJ wasn't going to last past the end of this season, he's a pretty good coach, but don't think he would be a play off coach.

I disagree a little about Brooks experience. 11 years in the NBA fighting for position. Spent time as a head coach in ABA, I know thats not NBA but it is head coach exp. Been an asst. coach under some of the better coaches in the NBA. SAC almost made him their coach. This could well be a good fit for the rest of 09 - 10 season. With a reevaluation next summer.

I actually though they'd let him ride out this season and make him the scapegoat for all of the losses. Seems like getting rid of him now is just dooming another coach (seemingly Brooks) to start off with a series of losses. Maybe they thought that the players just weren't putting it all on the floor for PJ...

As for PJ, I know this, in regards to his days being numbered...though I disagree with him not being a playoff type coach...thats more about the players than the coach...but for arguement sake, if you got to the playoffs and had a treu playoff type team, PJ doest hurt you...

very possible with Brooks...I wish him the best and I hope he improves your situation...good luck to him and OKC fans...
